The Burleigh Bears’ Pizzey Park on Qlds Gold Coast played home away from home field for the Struddys Sports 15 years & Under State Rugby League Championships from Thursday 10 – Sunday 13 May.

The QSSRL committee presented an excellently organised carnival like schoolboy footy fans have come to expect.

Qlds usual big name rugby league schools including Keebra Park, Redcliffe, Wavell, Mackay State High School, Mountain Creek State High School and Palm Beach Currumbin were heavily represented.

Naming rights sponsor Struddys Sports held prime supporters real estate for one of its portable supporters stalls overlooking the main playing field.

Gold Coast Titans, Broncos and North Qld Cowboys combined with Rock Solid Sports to provide Man-of-the-Match awards for all games played.

Not an easy task for some of the games when at times teams were evenly matched.

Queensland Referees took advantage of the media setup at Burleigh Bears football club to use the carnival as a training opportunity for its Refs and Touchies.

Carnivals like this one play an integral part in keeping our officials on-the-ball, and up-to-date with their own professional development. A part of the game often forgotten.

Selectors in the commentary box were impressed with the students form, with an extended list of highlighted players to select from for the Queensland representative team.

The 15 years & Under Qld Schoolboys Rugby League team will be announced this afternoon, just in time for uniform fittings to be completed before the students fly out to their home towns.
