First Grade players from the Newcastle Knights, Manly Sea Eagles, Wests Tigers, Penrith Panthers and St George Illawarra Dragons joined The Hon Sandra Nori, Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation to launch the expansion of a highly successful program designed to deliver road safety messages to high school students.
The Challenging Attitudes to Risk or CAR Program, is run by the NSW Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) and involves first grade NRL players and NSW Police Youth Liaison Officers visiting local high schools and talk to students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to encourage safer driving.
The 2007 CAR Program was launched on Wednesday 21 March at Telstra Stadium with Newcastle Knight's Danny Buderus, Steve Menzies of the Manly Sea Eagles, Mark Gasnier of St George Illawarra, Rhys Wesser of Penrith Panthers and West Tigers Liam Fulton.
They players lent their full support to the program and hope that as rugby league players, they hope they can get through to some of these young drivers with the Arrive alive message.
Their message was clear - they want young drivers to slow down, take a break if tired, wear seatbelts and don't drink and drive. The boys were also joined by representatives from four Arrive alive Schoolboy Cup teams - Endeavour Sports High, Kogarah Marist College, St Dominics, Penrith and Matraville Sports High
