WESTFIELDS ROCK INTO BUCKLEY GRAND FINAL

Westfields Sports 24 v Endeavour Sports 6
What a great game by our team, they took control from the kick-off and remained in charge till the final whistle.
The first half was a free flowing game with only 2 penalties given by the referee.
The first try was scored by Fraser and converted by the very safe boot of Jacob who had another all inspiring game at lock.
The next try went to Guston who receive a pass from our halfback Sam and stepped through six defenders to score from 20 metres out, again Jacob converted taking the scrore out to a lead of 12 points to nil.

Not long before halftime Endeavour's dummy half passed the ball which went through three sets of hands for their second rower to run 20 metres for his, and his team's only try which was successfully converted to give the opposition their 6 points.
Half time score Westfields Sports 12 Endeavour Sports 6.
The second half started the same as the first, with just 5 minutes on the clock when Tyron crashed over for his try, the conversion attempt met Jacobs boot sweetly guiding it through for a further 2 points. Score Westfields 18-6
I don't know who the coaching staff selected as man of the match but I feel sure Jacob must figure in their considerations, he played a big part in his teams success not only in theis game but throughout the season.
It was Jacob who scored our last try and again converted it for a perferct display of goal kicking.

ENDEAVOUR SHS Vs ILLAWARRA SHS
Story & Photo By :
Endeavour travelled down past Wollongong to play Illawarra Sports High School in Buckley Shield.
These 1 team faced each other last week in the NSWRL All Schools Championships with Endeavour winning fairly easily.
Endeavour coach Mr. Howlett reminded the boys "this is a different game, they will come hard at us" and so the Illawarra boys did.
It was a tough game with both teams forward trying to smash each other in the opening stages.
Illawarra Sports High School is a new SHS, their Buckley shield side is improving in every department.
The side is listening and learning, this shows in the way Illawarra play, it wont be long before Illawarra are a real long term threat to all the school footy teams out there.
Ourfooty media heard the Illawarra coach congratulating is team after this Buckley Shield semi final, he said they are improving & coming along nicely. - Good on ya boys ! |

Engadine High School proved too strong in the Buckley Shield yesterday with a convincing 28 - 14 win over a big, tough South Sydney High School side.
Engadine have powered though this Under 14's schoolboys competition by winning the East Sydney Regional Final now progress to the next level where the competition will be a lot faster & toughter.
Engadine HS are arguably one of the best Rugby League Schools in the Shire, they are very well coached by Mr. Steve Holz, ( St. Pat's at Sutho' come very close and we dont include Endeavour in this as they are a Sports High School) and are confident of giving the Finals a fair shake this year.
Then again 13 years old Nick the RAT reckons "St. Pat's at Sutherland are the best!" It's a free country. |

Carl Planicka will provide the spark in attack for Cowra High School’s Buckley Shield side in their state quarter-final clash against Tumut tomorrow. |
BUCKLEY SHIELD SIDE NOT FAZED BY BIGGER SPORTS HIGH SCHOOLS
Story & Photo By :
Cowra High School's all-conquering Buckley Shield side is itching for a crack at one of the bigger sports schools according to coach Rodney Eastwood.
The under 14s side has will vie for a place in the last four in the state when they hit the road to take on Tumut tomorrow.
Fresh from a 38-0 pounding of Merrylands High in the round of 16, Eastwood said his side is looking forward to a likely clash with a sports high school in the state semi-finals.
"If we do get there, we want to have a crack at some of them. It will be good to see where they're at and what sort of pace they have to play at," he said.
First things first though, the team must overcome Tumut, a side known to most of the Cowra High School squad.
Cowra's success has been built upon familiarity, with the side building combinations from the multitude of football they have played together.
The majority of the team play together in the Cowra junior league under 14s representative side, sweeping all before them this season winning the Orange CYMS and Group 10 carnivals.
They also knocked off the previously undefeated Woden Valley Dragons from Canberra, before obliterating the best teams in the Riverina at the Junee carnival.
"We're always a big chance. We're a big side and the guys have been playing really well together," Eastwood said.
"The boys had a run against Tumut at the Junee carnival and beat them but school football is different.
"There's a fair few...about six or seven of them (who have been playing well). The forwards are always working hard for each other helping our speedy halves who are finding space for our centres. And Carl (Planicka) at the back just tops it off."
Eastwood said the Merrylands hiding would help his team build confidence for the quarter-final clash with Tumut.
"Merrylands never came with any heart and were just too soft I think. Once our boys knew that, they started running harder and played with more aggression."
Tomorrow's match is scheduled to start at 12.30pm. |

RISING STAR: Tumut High School lock Blake Jones gave NRL scouts something more to think about by scoring four tries against Mt Austin High in the Buckley Shield game in Wagga yesterday.Photo: Les Smith |
NRL EYES ARE ON STAR TUMUT TEEN
Story & Photo By : Les Muir
BLAKE JONES WAS THE TEARAWAY STAR AS TUMUT SMASHED MOUNT AUSTIN 46-0
TUMUT teenager Blake Jones yesterday showed why there is a growing list of NRL clubs wanting to sign him to a contract.
Only 14 years old, Jones was the tearaway star as Tumut High School smashed Mount Austin High in a Buckley Shield tie in Wagga.
Too strong, skilful and quick, the young lock scored four fabulous tries for Tumut High in a 46-0 whitewash of Mt Austin.
Up by 16-0 at half-time, Tumut High ran rampant in the second half, scoring another five tries to storm into the Riverina final of the Buckley Shield.
Slicing through from 45 metres out, Jones scored the first of Tumut High's eight tries in the seventh minute and bagged another three tries in the second half.
Complementing his try-scoring prowess, Jones booted seven goals from eight shots for a whopping 30 points from the game.
As joint Tumut High coach John Deacon said later it is little wonder NRL clubs are keen to get their hands on Jones.
“Blake’s a really good player and there are quite a few NRL clubs looking at him,” Deacon said.
“I know Parramatta among others has asked him to go down for a trial.”
Jones yesterday showed in no uncertain terms the reason for the interest from the Eels and their million dollar counterparts.
Particularly dangerous from long range, the tallish teenager literally cut Mt Austin to ribbons nearly every time he ran the ball.
With Mt Austin High out of the way, Tumut High is now steeling itself for another shot at Griffith’s Wade High in the Buckley Shield regional final, according to Deacon.
Deacon said Wade High had knocked out Tumut High at a similar stage of last year’s Buckley Shield competition.
“It would be great to get one back on them,” Deacon said yesterday.
“They were too big for us last year and gave us a bit of touch-up.
“They haven’t actually qualified for the final yet, but I can’t see them not being there again.”
After overwhelming Tumut High in the Riverina final in 2006, Wade High was beaten in a semi-final of the statewide competition.
Aside from Jones, centre Brock Handy and prop Trent Skeers were among the top contributors for Tumut High yesterday. |
Match report - Buckley Shield
Story By : Steve Freeborn Chifley College /
Endeavour Sports High School V Chifley College Western Weekender Stadium, St Marys May 2, 2007 result Chifley 32 def Endeavour 22
An excellent game between two well coached sides who matched each other in size and skill all game.
Chifley went to the lead early after two excellent tries to take a 12 point advantage late in the first half.
Endeavour hit back right on half time to take the score to 12 - 6 at the break.
Following a passage of drop ball by Chifley and four consecutive sets Endeavour hit back to be only two points behind.
Chifley he forwards then dominated in the forwards and consecutive tries allowed for an 8 point break.
The best Endeavour could do was get back to a two point deficit , but the bigger Chifley forwards allowed for two late tries to seal the match for the home side.
All players should be congratulated for the manner in which the played the game in hot conditions and the sportmanship shown at the conclusion of the game was a credit to both coaching staffs.
Endeavour Coach Dave Howlett told his boys "that was about a 100% improvement on the Hills match, we showed today that we can compete and finals are not won in the first rounds of a competition"
