ENDEAVOUR SPORTS VS WESTFIELDS SPORTS
On a very cloudy but warm day Westfields made the trip to the shire looking from a win.
The game started well for the visitors who crossed out wide after just 3 minutes.
A Penalty to Endeavour in the Westfields 20 gave Endeavour their first real opportunity in good field position and a first chance of points, but were unable to overpower the strong Westfields defence and a poor end to the set gave Westfields the ball.
Early in the tackle count a silly penalty given away by the home side gave Westfields the ball in Endeavours half.
Westfields were successful in trying to capitalize and a soft try set then up for a possible ten point lead. The kick was an absolute shocker and Westfields were up after 10 minutes 8 points to nil.
A knock on near the end of the set gave Endeavour a scrum on halfway.
A great individual effort from the fullback Jardin Gatt who showed great speed in running 40 metres to hit back for the home side. An easy conversion from the five-eighth made the score 8-6 after 14 minutes.
A huge hit from Rea Pittman caused an error 25 metres out and a great chance to grab points and the lead before the half-time break, but a poor kick at the end of the set gave the visitors the ball and that took us to half-time with Westfields leading 8 points to 6.
Just after half-time Endeavour came out showing toughness in defence and skill in attack. Some poor defence
from Endeavour allowed Westfields into the Endeavour 20.
But Endeavour muscled up and forced an error.
On the 3rd tackle a magnificent 75 metre try by centre Stacey Morrell put the home side in front 10-8.
Endeavour lined up and made Westfields kick from inside their own half with a penalty Endeavour raced downfield and on the second tackle Jamie Stanley went straight through and dived under the sticks and the conversion was successful.
Endeavour 16 Westfields 8.
Another good attacking set from Endeavour and a clever chip and chase and a classy off load put Endeavour
over again and the game close to out of reach for the visitors.
The fulltime siren sounded and Endeavour had run out winners 22 points to 8, what was a tough game defensively from both sides but definitely the better side won the game.
