PALM BEACH IS NOT THE ONLY TALK OF THE TOWN ON THE COAST. Story By : Tony Proud
Keebra Park under 13s were crowned the Steve Renouf Shield Champions for 2007 downing Wavell 15-14 with a field goal in the final 2 minutes to win the game.
The future of our game is in great hands with 9 boys collectively from both sides are part of the Broncos Elite Development program, hence what a game it was.
Redcliffe did do well but was beaten by Wavel in the semis and Keebra beat Marsden in the semis.
Both played at Suncorp which was a huge experience for the boys as they were the game between the Arrive alive cup and main game which meant there was a crowd of around 30,000 - 40,000 people there watching them.
Yeah none of the big guns from the past few season are there ah but same as you we had a few younger kids in the senior team as well so the future rivalry is looking good.

WELL ITS BEEN ANOTHER TREMENDOUSLY BUSY FEW WEEKS AT SCHOOL WITH THE FINALS WELL AND TRULY UNDERWAY. Story By : Darren Hart H.P.E
All sides have performed well this season and this trend was kicked off with the 13 and 14 "B" sides both winning the Gold Coast cross over finals.
This was no mean feat considering the boys were up against much larger schools with treble the populations. Well done to Mr Shearer, Miss Whybrow and Mr Woolf who ably coached these two squads. 14 B's captain was Taylor Rogers with Stephen O'Leary, Cyrus Leota and Dave Alder contributing well throughout the campaign.
The 13 A'S were disappointed in the first round of their finals surge with opponents, Clairvaux Mackillop College, forfeiting the game and allowing Keebra to progress to the last 16 where they will meet Coombabah @ Runaway Bay (Kick Off 4pm). So far the boys are undefeated and looking a good chance for the grand finals.
The 14 A'S faced Redcliffe in their first knock out game and were able to post a score of 80 -0 and enough (slightly) to see them on their way to round two where they will play Ipswich Grammar @ Ipswich Grammar @ 4pm.
The 15's also progressed to the final eight with a good win over Redcliffe and will now travel to Browns Plains and face Toowoomba Champions St Marys (4pm Kick Off)
So congratulations to all those teams and with the way they have been playing there is no reason that this year will once again be our most successful season ever as a whole.
THE OPENS
This week saw the opening round of the Arrive Alive Cup with Keebra up against Cav Road in the round of 8.
They posted a score of 30-0 which showed a solid attitude in defence although there were a few areas of attack that need some work at training this week.
Sometimes the enthusiasm of running over the top of sides equates to poor on field decision making and the boys will need to
KPSHS - rectify this and keep their composure as the games increase in speed and intensity.
This victory does however put us through and we face Redcliffe at Runaway Bay with the Kick Off set for 6pm on Wednesday Night.
WITH ALL THESE GAMES TAKING PLACE AT A SPREAD OF VENUES THE BOYS WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT, SO IF YOU CAN ......GET DOWN TO YOUR LOCAL FIELDS AND CHEER THEM ON. GOOD LUCK!!

KEEBRA PARK WIN STRUDDY'S CHALLENGE Story By : Darren Hart Keebra Park SHS
On what can only be described as a very, very, very, slightly chilly night at Langlands Park (Easts Brisbane) on Wednesday night, the Keebra Park Open B side went head to head with arch rivals PBC in the Struddy’s Challenge Grand Final.
As the ice flows floated past and penguins headed to the Leagues Club for a Roast dinner the game kicked off with Keebra making the early running.
Against the play PBC took an early lead and converted to lead 6-0.
This lead was however levelled when Garrick Olislagers hit a hole and latched onto a well timed pass that saw him rocket over the line.
With PBC scoring again just before the half time siren the boys went into the sheds at 12-6 down but confident that with a bit of patience they would turn things around.
The second half saw Keebra hit back with converted tries to Corey Norman and another to Garrick Olislagers that set up a final quarter with Keebra 18-12 in front.
Palm Beach pressured the line right up to the end and actually scored from the last tackle of the game as the siren sounded.
This put their number six in the position of having to kick the goal to level the scores (a situation that would see them win as first scorers).
The kick was about 12 metres in from touch and although he hit it well the ball veered out to the left of the post and the game was over.
As we speak he is still reliving this moment over and over and over again……..but that’s football and all credit to coach Kurt Richards who has taken this squad and moulded them into a force to be reckoned with.
On the same night the Open A’s beat Cav Road 24-6 and the 15’s won their match.
These were the last round matches for the Opens and 15’s who now enter into the knock out stages of their competitions

FINALS FEVER Story By : Darren HART - Keebra Park SHS
Next week sees the commencement of the final round of the Opens Alan Langer Trophy and the start of the knock out phases of the Renouf, Hancock and Walters trophies in the junior age groups.
There are also two grand finals in play with the Keebra Park “Struddies” (Open B’s Competition) Challenge side playing PBC and the Keebra Park Open “C” Side contesting the grand final of the Titans Cup at Nerang.
This has been a fantastic effort by both the boys and the coaching staff to orchestrate themselves when there were often five teams playing on one night at as many locations. To have teams in two grand finals and have the Opens, 13’s and 14’s teams finish unbeaten in the rounds and the fifteens finishing 4th overall is to be congratulated.
Mr Stevens Titans team will face Marymount at Nerang junior rugby league grounds @ 6-30PM on Monday night and this is sure to be a close fought encounter with the sides quite evenly matched throughout the rounds.
Mr Richards comes off a good win at Clairvaux to face local rivals PBC in the Struddies Challenge on Wednesday evening.
On the same night the Open A’s will play Cavendish Road in the final match of the seeding rounds of the Alan Langer Trophy before the knockout stages of the Arrive Alive Cup starts.
On Tuesday the 24th of July the unbeaten 13 and 14 year sides will take on Clairvaux and Redcliffe respectively.
In the 13’s the Keebra boys finished with only 18 points being scored against them with a tally of 288 points for which in itself was a great effort considering the calibre of the opposition.
As we enter these knockout stages he skill training and fitness efforts these boys put in week in and week out are sure to stand them in good stead so I wont wish them luck as they wont need it if they do what they do best.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SOUTH COAST REPS AND TIGERS DEBUT FOR BEN TEO Story By : Darren Hart Keebra Park SHS
With the South Coast teams having been named it was pleasing to see a multitude of Keebra boys making the grade and moving on to rep football that is the first step in a long journey on the way to fulfilling their football goals.
In the fifteens age group we had Matt Staines, Ayden Hawariwa, Bronson Teepa, Richie Powell Ezra, Kayden Matahaere and Blake Andrews with Tyson Deen making the presidents XIII.
The Opens gained an even higher number of selections with ten boys performing well enough in the early part of the season to merit a spot.
Congratulations to Kenny Edwards, Konelio, Kyle Bos, Bodie Clarke, Ricardo Parata, Brett Thomas, Blake Leary, Kieron Quinn, Jonny Fox and Robert Lui.
Some of those names will be familiar with both Blake and Ricardo having brothers who have graduated from the program.
While Keebra has always featured prominently in representative selections, these things can never be taken for granted and it is hard work and dedication to their football that has seen these boys again prove that the sports specialisation program really is a pathway to success.
The Under 15 Championships are currently underway at Burleigh Leagues club and Opens will be taking place over the next weekend.
Watch this space for updates and further selections.
On another positive note it is good to see three ex students named in NRL teams for this coming week.
Well done Rangi Chase at the Dragons, Greg Eastwood who continues to impress at the Broncos and Ben Teo (2005 Peter Sterling medal winner) who will make his debut at the Tigers.
KEEBRA BEAT PALM BEACH TO TAKE INAUGURAL TITANS TROPHY Story By : Darren Hart
While the game was in many ways a trial for Keebra Park (a chance to try out some of the newcomers to the sports specialisation program) the inaugural Titans Challenge Trophy was always going to be a hard fought encounter given that the opposition was local rivals Palm Beach Currumbin.
In Blustery conditions and in front of a large enthusiastic crowd the curtain raiser to the Titand first Carrara game opened with a series of blockbusting hit ups and some solid defence by both teams.
Running with the wind the PBC attack failed to capitalise on the conditions and it was Keebra who opened the scoring with a well worked move down the right hand side that saw newcomer Beau Dinsdale cross in the corner.
Two further tries to Keebra through Corey Norman and Ricardo Parata (brother of ex graduate and Wests Tigers Premier league player Matt) and a try to PBC took the half time score to 16-6 to Keebra.
The second half saw Keebra probe the PBC defence and it looked like the floodgates were about to open but some poor options allowed PBC to creep back into contention with a couple of good individual efforts.
The last period of the match saw PBC attack the Keebra Park in an effort to level the scores and a loose pass gave Vaha the flying Keebra centre an intercept that saw him acclerate down the left hand side of the field to score under the posts (well nearly).
This gave a full time score of 28-16 and meant that the inuagural winners of the Titans Trophy were Keebra...
Well done boys and good luck for the rest of the Broncos Challenge Competition
KEEBRA LOOK FORWARD TO 2007 Story By : KP Rugby League
The Keebra Park Rugby League squad has once again had an outstanding year, defending their Queensland State title and once again contesting the National Arrive Alive Cup final in Sydney.
Further to this, four program graduates played first grade NRL in 2006, (Benji Marshall, Jamaal Lolesi and Rangi Chase with the Wests Tigers and Greg Eastwood for the Brisbane Broncos).
This number is set to increase with a number of past graduates expected to step up to the elite level in 2007.
With the success of our program, our affiliation (since 2003) with the Wests Tigers has become stronger and closer with both sides finding this arrangement mutually beneficial and we now enjoy relations with Wests that see regular correspondence and contact.
As the nursery for the Wests Tigers we have developed a professional approach that is second to none in school based sport with a fully informed and trained coaching staff that is preparing the elite players of tomorrow.
Congratulations to students who have commenced traineeships or work experience already this term.

NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS
Please remember that school photos are coming up on February 14, so this means that FULL dress uniform is required.
For boys that means: Dress shirt with the grey shorts.
For girls that means: Day skirt with the blouse.
In the Struddy's Sports Challenge, Forest Lake gave as good as they got and after 80 minutes the battle was over.
The score was locked at 10 -all.
After a little confusion, the Keebra boys realized they'd won as Keebra scored 1st with a great team try.
Both the Opens and Under 15's had comfortable wins against Sunnybank SHS.
Keebra look good so far and must have their eyes in the Trophy that everyone wants.

KEVIN WALTER’S CUP – Trials Story & Photos By : By Kirsty Fields (Redcliffe SHS)
07/03 Redcliffe State High School beat Keebra Park SHS at Dolphin Oval in the first round of the Broncos Challenge Year 10 competition - Kevin Walters Cup. A fantastic home game to showcase as the beginning of the Redcliffe High season.
Redcliffe down at half-time, 18-6 courageously fought back in the final minutes of the second half to take the lead for the first time in the match. Defending well in the final 5 minutes to hold Keebra Park out at 22-18.
Coach Michael Roberts was pleased with the Year 10 boys first game of the season. “Playing against one of the leading rugby league schools in South-East Qld is always slightly more of a concern, and for the first game of the season I was impressed with the boys efforts”.
23/01 This week sees some of Australian best young Rugby League players attending quality Rugby League Camps, Holiday Clinics from Palm Island to Geelong in Victoria.

Development day downpour does little to dampen spirits 21/12 The 2006 Keebra Park development day for next years intake of grade 8 students was held recently at Main Beach and while the weather was pretty rugged it did little to interfere with the days activities.
70 boys travelled from afar afield as Brisbane and New South Wales for the camp that is a way of introducing the squad to each other in preparations for next years entry into the sports specialisation program.
There was a testing and skills session in the morning followed by a hearty breakfast of gourmet sausage sandwiches ably prepared by Nerang's own Pete Stephens (On Tongs) and Darren Hart (On flipper thingy). The afternoon saw a more lighthearted approach with a games based approach aimed at breaking down a few barriers and giving the boys more freedom to express themselves.. Learn More
