Well it’s been a busy old time in school footy land with school, club, regional and State representative games in full swing.
Keebra Park have had probably their best term two in many years with regard to consistency and the measurable development of boys as they have transitioned across the age groups.
The under 13-15 year groups have all finished in the top half of their respective competitions while the Opens have enjoyed success across the three divisions that they play in.
The Open A’s sit atop the Langer Trophy and will finished either top or second seed depending on points for and against.
More importantly was the pleasing selections across club and school representative teams with Seven boys making the grade in the Qld Schoolboys side after a dominating 74-4 demolition of Metropolitan North in the recent State Championships.
Well done, Tanah, Laz, Brock, Damion, David, Seb and Geordie.
David Fifita was also named player of the tournament.
In Clubland, Tanah and David were both named in the Qld Under 18 Origin side with David unfortunately unable to play due to injury.
Term 3 will see the boys compete in the knockout stages of the GIO Cup and we wish them all the best.
The Open B’s finished to of the Langer reserve competition and now face a semi-final in term two as they continue their journey.
The Open C team have done exceptionally well in their journey into the Titans Cup Final where they have beaten local school A teams, Marymount, Aquinas, Helensvale and St Michaels in the rounds to progress to another showdown with Marymount for the Cup.
This is no mean feat given that Marymount are a school with an A team that always places well at the confraternity. Selections often mean that the Keebra Open Cs rarely get the opportunity to train together so to be able to perform with limited combinations is a tribute to their individual determination and skill set.
This game will be played at Pizzey Park early in term three with the Open A team and Open B team expected to come down and cheer the boys on.
In NRL news well done to Briton Nikora who is playing some good football at the Sharkies and to Phillip Sami and George Fai who while not graduates, spent a good part of their time at Keebra Park and are progressing well at the Titans and Broncos respectively.
Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of this year is the diagnostic selections of the boys in rep sides that expose them to the rigours and routines of football at the next level and cements Keebra Park as the number One school for providing elite player development and realistic pathways into Rugby League as a career.
