The first of the two games saw Patrician Brothers Blacktown taking on Matraville Sports High and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Matraville opened the scoring early on when Roosters SG Ball Grand Final hero, Paul Rokolati stepped inside a number of tacklers to slam the ball down beside the posts and after it was converted they lead 6-0.

Off the resulting kick-off Matraville worked their way up the park and after some nifty lead up work around the rucks Tom Guymer was put away to once again score near the posts and help extend their lead to 12.

No further tries were scored prior to the break despite some desperate efforts by both teams, however shortly after half time Kane Evans scored a great try after breaking some tackles and with Jacob Miller’s third conversion of the afternoon, Matraville had a very handy 18 point lead.

Not long after, Patrician had earned themselves an attacking scrum 40m out from the Matraville line only to have a long pass picked off by Tom Guymer who sprinted 60m to score his second of the match and ensure Matraville the victory.

Patrician Brothers finally got on the board after George Jennings ran 90m only to be brought down inches short of the line by a great try saving tackle from Tom Guymer, but a quick play the ball allowed Keti Nanai to dive over in the corner.
