KANGAROOS TRAINING WITH KEEBRA PARK

The Four Nations may make for what has already been a long season for representative players but it also presents opportunities for those in the wider rugby league community to see the elite players from across four distinct, proud nations doing what they do best on the world stage.

One such opportunity presented itself last week with staff from Keebra Park invited to Kangaroos training at Suncorp where the Keebra Coaches were able to network and learn from the training and management staff of the National team.

It was a welcome break for Junior development co-ordinator Jade Hounsell who has been hard at work over the past 9 months with the various development days and grade 7 and 8 activities we run at the school.

“Attending this session has been a very worthwhile experience, and one where we are able to pick up invaluable coaching experience from the very best in the industry” She said. “We like to keep at the forefront of schoolboy rugby league and it is through opportunities such as this that many connections are made and much knowledge and experience gained” She added

Keebra Park graduates are among those in this year’s competition with Issac Liu and Sam Moa donning the Blue and White of Samoa while Greg Eastwood and Bodene Thompson will be representing the Kiwis.

Keebra Parks next development day is on at the school on the 13th November and is open to all boys considering joining the program. For more information please call Jade on 0423120709

KEEBRA PARK REP WRAP

With the Representative season drawing to a close Keebra Park are proud to announce the following boys who have gained selection in the Qld and Australian teams across various age groups.

In the Under 18 age group, Jordan Scott, Braydon Mcmahon and JJ Felise represented QLD at the Darwin State Championships whilst in the Under 15’s, Eddie Mataele, Laurence Tomoniko, Payne Haas, Kees Nicholson and Ignatius Sefo, were selected for the QLD side off the back of a strong championship in Tamworth.

Payne also played well enough to gain Australian Under 15 Merit side selection and should be congratulated on his hard work.

These selections are a good indication of the effort being expended by both the coaching staff and the boys themselves and will stand them in good stead as they continue on their career paths.

Keebra Park is also proud of” Old Boy” Dray Ngatuere Wroe who will join Payne in the Australian merit side.

Schoolboy football really hots up this week with the Bronco’s competitions all in the knock out stages with the Keebra teams still going strong in both the Under 14 and 15 age groups.

In the Open A’s Keebra will face Marsden SHS with the victors set to play Palm Beach Currumbin.

In other news the Keebra Park Tongan “Junior Academy” set up just outside the village of Lirpa Loof continues to grow in numbers with enrolments at near capacity.

In Old Boys news, we are hoping to hold an Old Boys reunion at the end of the season to bring teams of the past together in a social environment with a percentage of profits going towards the production of the short film, AMUA which traces the journey of a New Zealand born boy as he chases his dream of playing professional rugby league.

Director Api Ipo was one of the original boys from New Zealand who arrived in Australia with this dream and has managed to secure James Rolleston from the hit movie “BOY” to play the lead role.

Information include a teaser for the movie are available on the Old Boys Facebook site and also through the search “AMUA”
KEEBRA PARK UPDATE

While social media was abuzz with claims of how the Keebra Park versus Coombabah game would be “Ruthless” these rumours did in fact turn out to be “Toothless” with Coombabah unlike Luiz Suarez, unable to put the bite on Keebra and eventually going down on the wrong end of a 36-10 scoreline.

Coombabah came out with good intention and matched Keebra’s two early tries with a well worked try to speedy fullback Neil Muller who stepped back inside and raced to the line to give a 15 minute score line of 10-4. This was as close as the game got though with Coombabah’s inability to build pressure allowing Keebra free rein in the middle third of the field that saw them add a flurry of tries to go into the sheds with a 28-4 half time advantage.

With Keebra trialling some younger players in new positions in order to give them experience the second half was always going to have a an effect on their structure but these boys put in a consistent enough performance to add another couple of tries, giving a full time score of 36-10.

These results will see Wavell finish as top seed, Keebra second, with PBC, Coombabah and Marsden rounding out the 5. Two more regional qualifiers will now enter the competition and the knockout stages will begin in week 3 of term 3. These positions also put Marsden, Coombabah and Wavell on one side of the draw and PBC and Keebra on the other side, ensuring that there will be some real blockbusting games for the schoolboy football supporters to get behind.

Well done all boys involved and see you in the qualifiers.
KEEBRA PARK SEASON SO FAR

Well we are well under way in 2014 and so far there have been some mixed results across the board.

The Open A team are beginning to gel and came off a 6 point loss to Wavell to post a 25-18 win over rival Gold Coast school Palm Beach Currumbin.

The boys have been training hard and the win is a testament to this.

10 of the side are 16 and have been in the system since grade 8 and this further dispels the misconception that the boys are all bought together in grade 12 with the reality being that they train hard, are well disciplined and that they strive to maintain the tradition of the Keebra Park jersey.

Program contractual commitments also ensure that players not gaining a pass mark for effort and behaviour do not play at all and while some programs may be willing to sacrifice this aspect of the wholistic program in favour of results on the field it is a corner stone of the program here, regardless of the cost as far as results go and not something that is compromised on.

PBC went into the game with 3 QLD players and a reputation built largely on the combinations built up in the Meninga competition and many of the large crowd gathered to see Keebra put to the sword as it were with further hearsay and speculations regarding the Keebra Program permeating through the stands.

Kick off saw Keebra more than a match with PBC through the middle and this lead to dominant field position and two quick try scoring opportunities that were duly taken.

A third was added before PBC replied off the back of a magnificent solo effort from QLD lock Keegan Hipgrave and this set the scene for a mini PBC revival that saw them head into the sheds 14-12 in front.

To their credit this revival came through the PBC ability to disrupt Keebra’s momentum and capitalise on any chance they got but the second half saw Keebra regain their composure and mount sustained pressure that lead to two more tries in quick succession.

PBC replied with a try of their own but smart play by half Braydon Mcmahon put the result out of contention when he slotted a field goal.

While the result was pleasing there was plenty of room for improvement in both sides and the rematch is sure to be highly anticipated with PBC welcoming back one QLD player and Keebra welcoming back its three Tongan boys on national duty.

In the Gee competition coach Peter Norman has his boys playing a fine style of running football built of the back of a solid forward platform. The grubber kick and subsequent try to flying winger Wisdom Edwards in the PBC was one to behold.

The 15’s coached by Peter Stevens continued to gain momentum despite missing a number of key players and wins against Coombabah and PBC highlight the level of skill and development that these boys are receiving as they head into the finals.

The 14’s Coached by Mr Cambell have continued their fine form and are playing some quality structured football usually reserved for boys of a more mature level and this patient, calculated approach will set them in good stead for the finals.

Wins over PBC 50-0 and Ipswich SHS 72-0 have seen some stellar performances and two man of the match displays by David Fifita.

The latter win being particularly well received considering the reputation Ipswich SHS’s football program has built in its local area.

The thirteens are struggling a little at the stage of the competition but are capable of beating anyone on their day and the stars are beginning to align.

In the local competition the 14 and 13 B’s side are through to the crossover finals and are a possibility of joining their respective A teams in the Broncos Competitions.

Pleasing selections include:

Jordan Scott, Braydon Mcmahon and JJ Felise in the QLD Open schoolboys team.

Old boy, Brent Woolf and grade 11 students Kobe Tararo and Ethan Paikea in the QLD Under 16s

Old Boys Riva Pati and George Fai in the Under 18 Club Team

Kenny Edwards and Kurtis Rowe forging NRL careers at the EELS and Tigers.

Corey Norman, Greg Eastwood, Benji Marshall, Robert Lui, Issac Lui , Sam Moa, Ben Teo, Jordan Kahu, Bodene Thompson and Rangi Chase and Ben Murdoch continuing their careers at various clubs.

Well done boys good luck to all schoolboy footballers as we head into the finals.
KEEBRA GRADS STAR IN TITAN OF A TROUNCING

No less than 9 Keebra Park graduates took to the field this afternoon as the Wests Tigers lined up against the Gold Coast Titans for the round 2 NYC clash.

While coach Ben Woolf had asked for more control of the football from his charges it was not evident as Wests opened their account when graduates John Ogden and Sione Alofi combined to make the most of ball handling mistakes from the Titans to see the score at 4-0 after eight minutes.

Three more Keebra boys then added thier names to the first half score sheet with Delouise Hoeter, Marion Seve and Te Maire Martin all contributing to the 18-4 half time score.

The second half saw more of the same and with the Titans unable to add the their account the game finished with the Tigers on the right end of a 34-4 scoreline.

The Keebra boys in the Wests Tigers side were: Delouise Hoeter, Marion Seve, Dallas Graham, Te Maire Martin, Sione Alofi, Lamar Liolavave and John Ogden while for the Titans, Oshae Tuiasau and Caleb Morehu did the school proud. Well done boys.
KEEBRA PARK KICK OFF 2014
Story By : Darren Hart - KPRL Media

Well the school football season kicked off this week with the Keebra Park Open 4ths taking on Coombabah in the Titans Challenge.

Played in drizzly conditions at Nerang Junior, the first rain we have had for months, Keebra’s conditioning an ability to put Coombabah under pressure paid off with a half time score of 22-6.

This proved too much of a deficit for the boys in blue and the full time score of 28-10 was probably a fair reflection of what was an entertaining game of football played in good spirits.

While it was a pleasing result, coach Darren Hart said there was plenty of room for improvement.

“We managed to put Coombabah under pressure and ourselves into good attacking positions but didn’t really capitalise.

We had a bit of “whiteline fever” so we will be working on our block plays and shifts close to the line to ensure we turn that pressure into points.

Our conditioning and defence were our strong points and we will continue to develop those characteristics as the season progresses”

The Titan’s Challenge team has a bye next week and then are set to face Upper Coomera.

The Challenge has two conferences this year with Keebra Park pitted against Challenge Cup heavyweights Robina and Aquinas in the Northern Conference with the top two qualifiers to contest the semi-finals with the winners of the Southern Conference which includes teams of the calibre of PBC and Marymount.

In other news trials are well under way with Broadwater representation the next goal on many boys radar.
NINE AT THE NINES FOR KEEBRA

With the exponential success of graduates from the Keebra Park Sports Specialisation Program it is little wonder that no less that nine are set to showcase their skills this weekend at the Auckland Nines.

Ben Teo who graduated in 2005 will captain the Rabbitohs and will be joined by Roosters Prop forward Isaac Lui who narrowly missed out on a 2013 Grand Final appearance with the Sydney City Roosters.

Robert Lui (2006) will line up for the Cowboys while old school mate Kenny Edwards will don the Yellow and Blue of Parramatta alongside 2008 graduate Corey Norman.

The Tigers will feature four of Keebra's finest with 2006's Bodene Thompson, 2009's Ben Murdoch and 2012 grads Delouise Hoeter and Kurtis Rowe.

While this news is not unexpected by those at the school it is none the less a great achievement and with 2013 graduates Marion Seve and Lamar Liolavave continuing to impress at the Tigers pre- season, it looks like Keebra's reputation as Australia's premier rugby league nursery is safe for the foreseeable future.

KEEBRA PARK PRESENTATION

2013 has been the most successful year for the Keebra Park rugby league program since its inception some 30 years ago.

Wins in all age groups of the Bronco's competitions, a fourth National Rugby Union Sevens Crown and a victory in the incredibly hard to win National Gio Schoolboys Cup final have meant there have been celebrations aplenty and a thoroughly deserved feeling of pride buzzing around the school.

This week however saw the boys achievements celebrated on a more formal level with ARL representative Jamie McCormack presenting Grade 8 captain Lazayrth Sua with a cheque for $10000 on behalf of the school.

Laz played an integral part in the Under 13's thrilling grand final win over Coombabah SHS, delivering a passionate pre-game speech that laid the platform for the Keebra victory and that embodied the spirit and determination that the school has become renowned for.

The holidays are almost upon us and it's time for reflection and rest before the 2014 season starts in earnest. The successes of 2013 have made Keebra Park an even bigger target in 2014 but our philosophy of “ Consistency and innovation” will stand us in good stead.

Success breeds envy and envy leads to irrational behaviour …….. irrational behaviour is no match for consistency.

Seasons Greetings
