KEEBRA PARK SOUTHCOAST REPRESENTATIVES 2015

This year’s South Coast trials took place at Burleigh Juniors with all local schools sending along their finest young Under 18 and Under 15 footballers.

Given the high standard of schoolboy football on the Gold Coast it was not surprising that the competition for spots in the 19 man squads was fierce.

This year’s teams were made of boys from a number of different high schools and it was good to see the players who played well on the day getting a fair go and making these sides.

Keebra Park faired particularly well with 17 boys gaining selection. In the Under 15’s : Laz Sua, Geordie Brand, Jonno Siofele, Ioane seilui, Tana Boyd, David Fifita, Sebastian Winters Chang and Taine Henry will all contest the 15’s State competition at Roma

and in the Under 18’s : Campbell Pirihi, Derome Mafi, Broughton Clarke, Tom Mikaele, Kobe Tararo, Ethan Paikea, Tyrone Roberts-Davis, Payne Haas and AJ Brimson, will contest the 18’s carnival at Wests Arana Hills in May.

This is no mean feat and a testament to the hard work and effort put in by both the boys and the staff on the training field.

These competitions run from a Thursday till Sunday and are sure to feature many of tomorrow’s NRL players so get along and support the boys and good luck from all at Keebra Park.

Dates to be advised ...

BACK TO SCHOOL AT KEEBRA

ourfootyteam logo
With the holidays over and term one well and truly underway , there is a buzz of anticipation as Keebra Park moves towards trials and the season proper.

With an increase in general schools numbers due to the Academic Excellence Program and the success of the Rugby League program there will be increased competition across the board this year and this should equate to even higher quality outcomes.

Seniors training has commenced on Friday mornings and the boys are going well with many taking advantage of the pre-school gym sessions run by strength and conditioning coach Mr Campbell.

An information session was held in week two and parents and guardians were able to ask questions of the coaching staff and chat with medical industry leaders regarding dental, Physio and insurance issues.

After the success of the New Zealand and Polynesian Islands Tour in 2010 there was much interest in the planned North American Tour that hopes to both promote this great game and tap into the cutting edge NFL knowledge that is abundant in the American College System.

2010 was a good year for the rugby league team with the Opens making its 4th National Final appearance in 6 years and Bodene Thompson, Corey Norman and Ben Murdoch all making their NRL debuts.

This year will see the boys defend their spot as Queensland Champions and National Rugby Union Sevens victors in an environment that is becoming increasingly more competitive with many schoolboy football teams vying for pole position.

GOOD LUCK FOR 2011.
KEEBRA BACK HOME SAFE AND SOUND

Well its all back to normal at school today with just memories of a succesful tour to NZ and Samoa.

Although this wasnt really a serious football tour it was a way to thank the boys who had achieved academically and done the right thing. We had a mixed squad with 5 Opens players, 6 under 16's 3 Opens thirds and 4 boys who were in the Open 4ths.

Well done boys for standing up to some very strong NZ representative sides especially Wellington Under 19's.

It difficult to play when your team consists of 13 backs and 5 forwards but you did the school proud and this experience is sure to come in handy in the future.

Thanks to all the host schools and for their hospitality.

Thanks to the school Maraes and to the staff at Princess Tui Inn. Hope to see you all again soon.

Lastly thanks to all the touring party for their behaviour and spirit that made this an awesome tour.
FUSH "N" CHUPS SAMOAN STYLE
Both the two recent fishing trips have paid dividends with Mr Gould and Co catching enough to feed the boys for two nights in a row.

Yesterday there was a 15 kg Tuna and a Dolphin Fish and today three giant Trevally (20kg plus each) We found a restuarant that looked quiet and after a bit of careful negotiation the agreed to cook the fish and we would just buy the chips and salad.

They did a top job so its back tonight for round two. The chef wasnt toooo happy as he was just about to knock off but 2o hungry kids are twenty hungry kids and that was that.

Later last night we went into town to fufill the latest gosse's forfiet which was a full rendition of a Samoan Haka in the Macdonalds restaurant. Once again the performance was well recieved and it was cones all round.

The locals are freindly as ever and always willing to help...sometimes to the point of helping even when the dont understand a word we are saying.

The following is a transcript of a converstaion i had on puncturing my tyre.

"Hello do you speak English as i need a new tyre"

"Yes i speak English"

Where is the tyre shop?"

"Yes"

"No.... where is the shop for the tyre?"

"Yes"

"You dont speak English do you?"

"Yes"

"No you dont ....so can you find me someone who does"

"Yes"

"Is that all you know in English?"

"Yes"

"OK thank you"

"Yes"

But hey at least he was trying to help.

Today we are off to the rockpools and waterfalls to sit in the crystal clear waters and relax as the journey is coming to an end.

There will be one more update and then it will be back to work and reality but its been a great trip and well worth the time and effort.
KEEBRA GO BACK TO SCHOOL SAMOAN STYLE.

Samoa is awesome.....tropical lush and green and the way of life is very laid back....but not for us as our game against the Church College school was rearranged and with an hours notice we were off for the big game.

The school grounds are well kept and the temple is quite a sight to see. The whole school and half of Apia seemed to have turned out in their Lava lavas and ready to see the Aussies take on the locals.

Church School is a reknowned rugby Union school and have not lost for 5 seasons but as league was a new sport to them they were always going to struggle.

Four 2o minute quarters in searing heat with a backdrop of volcanos and palm trees saw some good football.....we interrupt this broadcast as finally after 4 hours of trying the boys have finally cracked open the coco nut they managed to shake froma tree out the front......back to the story.

Jack Wells and Jesse Margetts played out of their skins and at a new level that will stand them in good stead for school footy next year and once again Joseph Forrester and Kurtis Rowe were outstanding.

After the game we had a feast at the clubhouse and the local boys performed a haka as is traditional when a tribe loses a battle.

We then went for a road side bbq...which is awesome if you like singed pig trotters but the boys being blissfully unaware of what the food was seemed to woolf it down.

We presented the schoolw ith training gear and some jerseys and they presnted us with a Kava bowl and a talking stick which is the stick the villagers pass amongst themeselves when discussing village issues.

Todays goose was Mitchell Sharp and tonight will see him perform a traditional Samoan Haka in the food markets which if you have ever been to Samoa are quite an intimidating place to behold....so good luck Mitch.

Today Mr Gould and a crew are off deep seas fishing...Thanas gang are at the waterfalls and me and a few boys have been lounging around the 5 star Aggie Grays swimming pool.....luckily they didnt ask which room we were staying in.

Tomorrow will sea another fishing trip......and maybe a trip to the tsunami hit coast to see the devastation caused by the recent event.

Anyhow we are off to the deep hole snorkelling and there will be one more update till its back to reality.....i wonder if people will stare at me in my lavalava down Southport High Street.
KEEBRA HIT THE SURF AND PREPARE FOR THE MIGHT OF SAMOA.

Well we drove up from Hamilton to catch a 6am flight from Auckland to Apia and 4 hours later we landed safe and sound in the middle of the Pacific.

Driving from Apia airport to our accomodation at the Princess Tui inn was awesome. Banana Plantations, traditional homes and freindly locals going about ther business with chickens, pigs and all manner of wildfoul going about theirs.

The sights, sounds and smells all merged for a sensory overload that really got the boys thinking. Was the Gold Coast really Paradise or just a collection of tall buildings populated by some very angry, very agitated people? Why were these farmers so happy with their lot? .......But as this website is called "ourfootyteam.com" and not "Our philsophical questions team .com" i will move along.

Our digs are "The Princess Tui Inn" ...look it up its an awesome plantation style house with lush tropical adjectives...(little joke there). The rooms are 25 metres to the reef and a gentle breeze floats through the open windows. The boys all have beds with mosqito netting and so sleeping next to the ocean with the windows ajar is the best way to stay cool.

We unpacked and heade to the sliding rocks. Waterfalls that cascade into deep freshwater pols. You simply sit down and slide over the edge , down the rcokface , across various rockpools and then skeeeeerrrrrrrplosh!!!!! you land in the refreshing blue waters.

The locals were going down on their feet and only Kurtis was brave enough to follow suit. This is probably how the natural arch was as i can remember swimming there before the by laws were introduced......maybe thats why the people in the high rises are so agitated...there fun has been taken away....but i digresssss.

We then head for some local dinner treats before a late trip to tthe markets. The boys purchsed lava lavas, kave bowls and fans. By now we were all tired so we retired to the plantation for a well earned rest....followed by about 3000 stray dogs who seem to wander relentlessy down the street.

7am breakfast of local fruit and toast was followed by a walk to the beach and a 40 metre swim to the snorkelling area. We saw brilliant blue starfish, a reef shark and various trilion over reef secimens before heading back for a cool drink on the verandah.....and thats where i am now..if you dwell in a high rise and are a little sad....do yourself a favour and head over...i should be mayor by then and illl give you discount.

The most recent gooses are Dunley who when asked his name by anyone had to make chicken noises and flap his wings...very subtle when you go through customs.

The most recent is lachlan who has to wear his number ones all day....no mean feat on an offshore fishing trip.

Anyway i better go as game one is looming and my cocktail is getting cold....so Talofa Lava nofo lalo and malo till next time.

KEEBRA IN THE LAND OF THE LONG WHITE CLOUD

We arrived in Wellington in the wee hours of the morning and were greeted by torrential rain and crisp cool conditions and hightailed it to the Taoto Marae where we were to spend our first night in the land of the long white cloud.

The morning saw a distinct change in weather and whilst still a tad chilly, the sun shone brightly in the azure blue skies..(i hope you are enjoying the adjectives.) We got up showered and met a few of the local Maori elders who explained that we would have recieved a traditional greeting if we had arrived in the daylight, but as we came in the night there would be no way of seeing if we meant war or peace (as they couldnt see our eyes) and so the greeting was waivered.

Wellington is a beautiful city and we visited the "Te Papa" Cultural centre and museum for an introduction to Maori tradition. That evening we played against a Wellington Under 18's rep side in front of a keen and receptive crowd. The conditions were fine but chilly and after a hard game against some very good local reps we headed to the clubhouse for a feeeeeeed.

Saturday saw us leave Wellington and drive some 500kms through rugged country via Taupo to Hamilton. Mr Gould did a bungii and various others partook in all the sports that Taupo has to offer. Once again the scenery was breathtaking with snowcapped peaks and crystal clear waters.

Arriving in Hamilton we found our way to Melville school Marae and bedded down for the night.

"Goose of the day " was introduced to the tour which meant that various tour members had to complete forfeits.

The first found Campbell having to perform a Haka..in the town square. (Luckily the Maori boys gave him lessons and the performance was well recieved by the large gathered crowd...probably attracted to the flouro green Hawaain shirt he was wearing.

Our next game was Monday and we face a Hamilton rep side that featured some good talent and very big forwards. In true Keebra spirit though we were better structured and well drilled and the opposition were genuinely shocked as we ran in a few quick tries off the back of some great work by Kurtis Rowe and Joseph Forrester.

Travis was todays goose and his straight faced rendition of the Australian National Anthem before the game had all gathered somewhat baffled....the green shirt featured once again.

Today is our last day in NZ and on behalf of the touring party i would like to extend our gratitude to all involved in making us feel welcome and honoured. Tonight we head off to Aukland and then Samoa....so until then Goodbye NZ and Talofa Lave Samoa.
KEEBRA SAY GOODBYE AUSTRALIA AND TALOFA LAVA SAMOA

A very long season has come to an end and its time to relax. Thursday will see a squad of twenty players heading to Samoa via Wellington for a much anticipated tour and cultural exchange visit.

Mr Gould, Mr Hart and Polynesian student support officer, Tahana Burgess will be leading the intrepid adventurers as they embark on a trip that for many will be the first time they have left Australia.

The tour party plan to give a little bit of assistance to the locals at a grassroots level through running a series of coaching clinics and donating some equipment that was lost in the recent tsunamis.

The trip has been funded by the students own efforts and Mr Goulds drive and after many raffles and bbqs we are all set to head off.

So Nofa Lalo and hold onto your hats .....there will be a few updates throughout the tour.............to those left behind...."Dont hate...Congratulate" Mmmmmm Pork Buns

SPONTANEITY WINS THE DAY FOR HILLS SPORTS HIGH

While speculative offloads, short chip chases, early kicks and midfield bombs are quite rightly considered coach killers at the elite level of rugby league, these tactics paid dividends for Hills Sports High as they triumphed over Keebra Park at Suncorp stadium to take out the ARL Schoolboys Cup.

Keebra started well and early pressure lead to a try to Australian Schoolboys fullback Henare Wells and saw the Gold Coasters notch up a quickfire 6 -0 lead. Hills looked shocked and knew they were in for a game and it was probably Keebra's early dominance that was their undoing.

A few pushed passes rather than set completion gave the lions share of possession to Hills and rather than adding to their momentum, Keebra saw themselves fall behind after two tries to classy Australian Fullback Gerard McCullum.

Half time score.12-6.

The second half saw Hills come out looking very tired and Keebra quickly capitalised with Moseses over again. It was during this period that the game was won/lost with Keebra making some poor decisions while an exhausted Hills managed to spoil and scramble to thwart their opposition.

Standout Toyota Cup player, Jacob Loko added to Keebra's woes with a strong run seeing him carry four defenders over the line and put the score at 18-10.

With four minutes to go Keebra threw caution to the wind and some expansive length of the field play lead to Kurtis Rowe crossing out wide decreasing the margin to 4 points.

Opting not to take the conversion due to time running out, Keebra recieved the ball from the kick off and once more embarked on a length of the field try scoring mission that fell short after an in goal grubber kick was diffused by fullback McCullum.

The siren sounded and what had been a very entertaining game of football came to an end with the Hills doing enough to secure their first Cup victory.

As a school Keebra Park would like to thank Hills and their coaching staff for a great encounter and a game deserving of a Grand Final. Well done to all the teams who took part and heres looking to next years competition when we will all be better for the experience and back to contest for the Cup again.

While it was obviously a dissapointment to our boys at Keebra it was an effort they can be proud of with wins over much higher credentialed teams during the early rounds and a young side that will see 9 of the team putting themselves into the mix for selection next year................by the way ...beach training starts first week back.....so thats an 8km run follwed by soft sand running plus beach fitness ...so lay of the cakes in the holidays....no rest for the wicked.... KEERBA LOOKING TO DEFEND TITLE
Story By : Darren Hart
Keebra Park will be looking to make history next weekend when they defend their National Schoolboys Cup title.

While the final is historic for The Hills in that it is the first time they have made it this far in the elite competition, it will be a national first if Keebra are able to win both the National Rugby Union and rugby league titles in the same year.

Featuring in four of the last six grand finals, Keebra will be formidable opponents but are aware that The Hills are a very strong and talented football side after meeting them earlier in the year at the Rugby Union sevens tournament.

Stacked with Sydney junior representatives, Hills will be looking towards fullback Gerard McCullum and Parramatta Toyota Cup centre Jacob Loko to lead them to victory.

The match is sure to be a close encounter and whatever the outcome will be a spectacle for all of those able to be present.

KEEBRA PARK SNEAK THROUGH
ourfootyteam logo
Keebra through to final after scrappy encounter Keebra Park have progressed to their second consecutive National schoolboy rugby league championship Final after a scrappy victory against Illawarra Sports High from Sydney.

A quickfire try to prop Moseses Fotuaika opened the scoring and conversion by Cayden Matahaere saw the Keebra boys take a 6-0 lead.

An armwrestle ensued and a nasty headclash saw Illawarra lose big prop forward Stokes, who was to play no further part in proceedings.

Connor Toia added another unconverted Keebra try that saw them take a 10-0 lead into the final moments of the first half. Illawarra fired back and great probing by Sam Clunes lead to a try before the whistle that saw the halftime score at 10-6.

Illawarra were looking dangerous and Keebra were looking uncharacteristically flat. The second half talk seemed to refocus Keebra and soon after the restart a try came off the back of some solid defence.

Cayden Matahaere converted his own try and it was 16-6. Illawarra were already down one SGBall rep in Stokes and in the process of Matahaere scoring also lost Sam Clunes with a suspected concussion.

To their credit, Illawarra rallied again and scored to put the score at 16-12 with 8 minutes remaining. Keebra recieved a penalty in front of the posts with 2 minutes to go and opted to kick for the two points that ran down the clock and put Illawarra out of the competition.

This was an scrappy affair with both sides having opportunities to take the game. There is now three weeks until Keebra face off against bthe winner of the Matraville versus Hills encounter.

A time to regroup and refocus and what will ultimately lead to a classic final.

KEEBRA TAKE OUT STATE FINAL
Story By : dHart KPRL
After success in the South East final of the National schoolboy Cup against Palm Beach Currumbin, the Opens rugby league team face off against St Brendans Catholic College Yeppon in the State final.

Unsure of the opposition but aware that they had a side laden wih talent who had recently been victorious in the Catholic School's "Confraternity Shield", Keebra were meticulous in their preparation and prepared for an enthusiastic opposition.

The first 8 minutes saw both teams holding their own and probing each others lines with consectutive completions, however it was Brendans who cracked first after a turn over lead to an early try to prop, Mosese Fotuaka.

This score signalled a period of sustained pressure and tries to Corbin Keirnan, Henare Wells, Andrew Vela and Kurtis Rowe saw the half time score at 24-0.

Brendans stayed onfield for the halftime break and seemed somewhat shellshocked at the situation they found themselves in. They had qualified for the final with a win over fellow North Qld heavyweights Kirwan SHS and would have considered themselves an even chance in this State Final.

The second half began as the first had ended and a quick flurry of tries to Falaniko Lelua, a brace for both Henare Wells and Moseses Fotuaka, and another try to Kurtis Rowe sealed Brendans fate. Two late consolation tries left the full time score at 56-10 and a well worked and deserved win o the Keebra boys.

The next game will be a National semi-final at Suncorp Stadium against Illawarra Sports High with he winner to contest the National final against the winner of the other semi between Matraville and the Hills SHS.

COOMBABAH DOWN AT THE LAST HURDLE AS KEEBRA ROMP HOME.

The under 14s competition for the Michael Hancock Cup was a bit of a two horse race this year with both Keebra and Coombabah galloping out of the starting gate and off to great starts in the early rounds of the competition.

Tonights Grand final saw the two teams saddle up once more and they put on a great show for the huge crowd gathered at Runaway Bay.

Lead by Jayden Stanley, Keebra went into half time with a 16-10 lead and a spirtited come back by Coombabah saw the scores level at 16-16 with ten minutes to go.

This set the stage for a thrilling finale and a riveting gallop down the final furlong.

A final stanza build up saw Keebra regain the lead and rather than look over their shoulder.....they pressed home there advantage with further sustained attacks on the Coombabah goaline.

This late pressure thwarted any chance of an equaliser for the boys in various shades of blue and it was Keebra who crossed the line victorious and worthy recipients of this years trophy.

Well done all the boys and especially man of thematch .....Max........its now time for a short spell before training down the beach commences in term 4. KEEEEE.......BRAAAAAAA

KEEBRA SAY "WHAT RED WALL" ?

Keebra Park down Palm Beach Currumbin and are now through to QLD final in the National Schoolboys Cup.

Keebra Park SHS have succesfully defended their South Qld Champions tag with a solid win over Gold Coast heavyweights Palm Beach Curumbin.

In front of a large crowd at Suncorp Stadium, Keebra were too strong for a nippy PBC outfit who never really gained enough momentum to cause Keebra much trouble.

Half time saw the score at 16-6 too Keebra and a tense first five minutes of the second half saw PBC narrow the margin to 16-12. While the game was there for the taking during this period, it was a ten minute blitz lead mainly by tremendous line breaks by Henare Wells that saw Keebra skip away to a 28-12 lead.

PBC rallied and scored a late consolation try but a try to James Dunley gave Keebra a two try buffer and the 34-18 final score was a fair reflection of the nights events.

Keebra now go on to play the winner of the North Qld final in defence of their National Championship win in 2010. Pictures are on the way.

ARL SCHOOLBOYS CUP LOCKER ROOM (AaC)
KEEBRA THIRTEENS AND FOURTEEN THROUGH TO SEMI FINALS OF BRONCOS COMPETITIONS.
Both the thirteens and fourteens premiers have forged into the next rounds of their relative competitions.

The fourteens were too strong for Caloundra SHS who although soundly beaten on the day, did have some talent in key positions in their ranks.

A solid platform set by Max and JJ allowed Riva and Po to exploit the gaps and open up a first half lead that Caloundra could never reel in.

Braidon was solid at the back and Dysharn was tireless in the second row. Well done boys and good luck for next weeks game with Sunnybank.

The thirteens progressed due to a forfeit and although this was not ideal preparation, the boys will be ready for their semi-final encounter.

Well done to Mr Stevens and Mr Campbell on a strong season so far and good luck for the finals.

SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND SCHOOLBOY CUP POSITIONS FINALISED.

A win over Coombabah sees Keebra Park take position number two in the seedings after the final round robin matches.

The standings will be :

1. PBC
2. KEEBRA PARK
3. WAVELL SHS
4. COOMBABAH
5. CAVENDISH ROAD.

Keebra finished their final hit out before the knockouts with a win over fellow Gold Coast school, Coombabah.

The scrappy encounter never really got going and a stiff looking Keebra never really got into full stride. They did however do enough to take the points although a gallant but undergunned Coombabah held their ground and forced enough errors to irritate and annoy their classier opposition.

The competition now moves into the knockout stages and with the results so far it looks like being a very tight affair.

Good luck to all teams taking part.
KEEBRA BLUE DEFEAT KEEBRA YELLOW 50-10 IN TITANS CUP FINAL

There are certain times in history that things happen and you automatically know where you were and what you were doing.

For example ...The day Michael Jackson died....... I was in the Nerang KFC drive through getting a Hot and Spicy two piece feed "upsize"........the day England won the Rugby World cup...i was in the Nerang KFC Drive through getting a Hot and Spicy two piece feed "upsize"...............the day Keebra Yellow lost 50-10 against Keebra Blue....i wish i was in Nerang getting a Hot and Spicy two piece feed "Upsize" but unfortunately i wasnt and i was in the losing coaches box all alone...after watching the slow procession of staff members move to Mr Woolfs coaches box as his team piled on the points. (Apart from Mr Gould who was loyal to the end)

The game was however played in great spirit and the boys all won on the day with a hard but fair display of rugby league.

Congratulations to Charles Tago who lead his team to what turned out to be an emphatic victory after a first half arm wrestle that saw both sides struggle to take control of the game.

Zac Walsh was a worthy man of the match and continues to improve with each outing. For Mr Harts team, Dion Taumata gave his all and Captain Alex Tobler was gallant in defeat and lead the team well throughout the competition.

Well done all the boys involved and look forward to Keebra defending the title in 2011.
KEEBRA TO PLAY KEEBRA IN TITANS CUP FINAL

It will be a case of mate against mate in next Mondays Titans Cup Final after two Keebra Park sides made it through to thee finals.

Mr Harts Keebra Yellow will face off against Mr Woolfs Keebra Blue after downing PBC and Woodridge respectively.

Dion Taumata was a standout in the win over PBC with a couple of 40-20's and some speculative ball playing that came up trumps on the night. Captain Alex Tobler lead a strong forward pack with Matt Wycliff, Jahmin Gernhoffer and Bodie Apps putting in huge efforts in defence.

A big thanks to all the boys and as you would have expected the smart money is on Mr Hart and experience to be tooooooooo strong for the gallant Keebra Blues.

At last call the Blues were 68-1 outsiders and you would be lucky to find a bookie to take a bet against the Yellows. Mr Hart is also looking good for the coach of the year accolade and rumour has it that the coaches shield is already at the engravers.

QUEENSLAND REDS VISIT KEEBRA PARK
Story & Photo By : dHart
It was a crossing of the codes today at Keebra Park with players and staff of the Queensland Reds Rugby Union team paying a visit to the home of the National Schoolboy Rugby league Champions.

Reds captain James Horwell was an imposing sight on the weekly whole school parade as he presented the Open Boys Rugby Union sevens side with the National sevens trophy and then gave the gathered students a talk on what a massive achievement it had been for a league school to have taken out a significant rugby union competition.

Captain Moseses Fotuarka accepted the silverware and thanked the Reds for taking time out of a heavy schedule to be at the school.

Well done boys and heres looking forward to next years effort..........did somebody saw lineout drills????????

In other news it was a good start to the year for the Open boys league side as they took on and beat heavyweight side Wavell 14-10 in the first round of the Broncos competition.

In other games the 13's and 14's beat Wavell while the Gee shield side beat Wynnum.

The only loss of the week was a 2 point deficit in the Under 15's against Wavell.
Well done boys and good luck next week.

MIXED FORTUNES AS KEEBRA KICK OFF THEIR BRONCOS CAMPAIGN.

It was a mixed bag of results for Keebra as they embarked on their 2010 campaign in the Broncos run competitions. The under thirteens were very impressive as they held a representative laden Coombabah to an 18 all draw and were only denied the win through some poor last tackle options. Keanu Dawson put in a top effort and laid some go forward that Arion and the backs were able to expolit.

In the fourteens the boys started slowly and left themselves a bit to do as the game progressed. Controlling the play for the majority of the game they eventually went down to a fighting Coombabah who to their credit dug deep and scored a last ditch try to steal the game.

The boys are sure to learn a lesson from this and will be a much better side for the experience.

The fifteens were far too dominant through the middle for Coombabah today and while C-Bah showed some awesome speed out wide they were not really able to control vast passages of play due to their inability to compete around the ruck.

While Keebra are happy with the win it was also good to see a couple of players have impressive debuts in new positions and a man of the match performance to budding number 6 Jayden Warbrick.

Thanks for all the supporters who gave the games today a good atmosphere and heres looking forwardto next weeks encounters.
"CLASSY KEEBRA IN GODD TRIAL FORM"

Keebra Park's talented Year 9 A team continued there strong form last Friday evening, showing again that they will be give a strong showing in 2010.

After some good trial form against arch rivals Palm Beach, the boys travelled to Runaway Bay to face Coombabah, who had some promising new recruits. Keebra Park ran out eventual winners, 20 - 4 in a gruelling physical encounter that featured tough defence, powerful line breaks and scintillating speed.

Keebra Park posted the first try through clever hole running from powerful backrower Max Taamaletoa. Coombabah showed they had improved on their performance of last season with some committed, solid defence upfront and by half time had evened the match at 4 - 4.

The second half was a different story with Keebra Park's forward pack laying the platform for success. Incisive hit-ups and successful offloads from George Fai and a try from J.J. Collins enabled a margin to Keebra.

The speedy backline did the rest with clever, quick hands and scorching acceleration. Outside backs Riva Pati and Troy Simpson showed their class and speed, each taking a turn to score sensational runaway tries out wide, putting the game well beyond the reach of the home team."
"KEEBRA FLICK THE SWITCH"

From not knowing a lineout from a 22metre line or a wether the fullback should be we...aring Number 1 or number 15, Keebra Park have emerged from the hallowed halls of the Queensland Rugby Union with a new title.....QRU Schoolboys sevens Champions.

After winning the right to contest the finals by topping their group in the round robin stage of the competition including a win over reknowned union heavyweights St Josephs College Nudgee, the boys headed to Suncorp on Friday night to face Brisbane State High in the semi final.

Winning this game comfortably set them up for a showdown with competition favourites IGS (Ipswich Grammar to you and me).
second half of story...................

Ipswich were lightning fast and would pose a threat out wide but Keebra kept it tight and counted on their union counterparts not being up to making one on one tackles.

This proved to be the case and Grammar had to commit to the ruck or otherwise the bustling Keebra forwards would simply dominate through the middle. By sucking them in it was us who created the overlaps and at half time had a comfortable 19-12 lead.

The second half was a differnt story with Grammar spreading the ball and with weight of position lead 38-28 with two minutes to go.......................however..........there was one thing that we knew we were superior in and that was pride in the Keebra Park jersey...........this jersey is not won on privelige or who you know.......this jersey is built on hard work and discipline, on commitment to your team mates and commitment to the school and with the seconds ticking down the boys steeled themselves and when possession came they capitalised on it and ran out winners 38-28.

The boys now head of to the Nationals in Sydney adn with the return of their SG Ball and Mal Meninga Cup reps will be side to be reckoned with.

Mr Harts player of the day was Kurtis Rowe followed closely by Moseses and water runner of the day was of course Mr Hart.
KEEBRA PARK THE SEASON SO FAR.

Well its back to football for the students enrolled in the football specialisation program at Keebra Park SHS and there have already been some good signs.

Well done to Zac Walsh who was selected in the Queensland Murri to take on the NSW Kooris as a curtain raiser to the Allstars game at Skilled Park last weekend.

Unfortunately the game didnt go their way but im sure Zac gained some useful experience.

In other news the school put a sevens side into the Queensland Reds sevens competition and finished top of their group beating some of the best Union sides in the area including St Josephs College Nudgee.

They now face a semi final against the fancied Brisbane State High and a rematch with Nudgee if they win that game. These games are to be played as curtain raisers to the Reds versus Canterbury game and Suncorp on Friday night.

They may well be short with a number of the team flying down to Sydney for SG Ball duty but whatever the result it has been a great effort from boys with no union background.

Early trials against PBC showed that the Under 14s will be a side to be reckoned with this year and there are upcoming trials in all grades.

Well done to graduates Corey Norman who is progressing well at the Broncos and there is good news from the Tigers with the boys going well down there.

The under 16 side also looks like they will give the Titans Competition a shake with nine (9) of this side already aelected and playing for the Titans Cyril Connell Cup team.

So far so good and ill update the Union results as they happen.

After a succesful season in 2010, Keebra Park realise that they will have a target on their backs as the team to beat in 2010.

Training has recommenced at the school and Friday morning training has become the place for the new recruits to show the coach their talents and a place to start the long journey that will be season 2010.

There have been some good gains in all age groups and that combined with the existing talent is sure to make competition for spots quite tight.

A number of last years Arrive Alive Cup side were in grade 11 and this means that once again they should feature in selections and they also have the advantage of knowing what victory in this elite competition takes.

This year there have been students enrol from a myriad of locations including Murgon, Tonga, Western Australia, Torres Straight and even the Uk which is a pleasing sign that the reputation of the school is definetly becoming global...................

With some great competition in the local area expected this year, Keebra are under no illusions that its is discipline and hard work that are the keys to success and an equally pleasing season 2010.
DIVERSITY IN THE CLASSROOM REFLECTED IN DIVERSITY IN THE SPORTING ARENA.

Keebra Park State High School has always been a place of diversity and difference with as many as 64 nationalities making up its student cohort.

The name itself is an aboriginal word meaning “Place of Happy People” and it certainly embraces this ideal.

There is the extremely successful ESL program (English As a Second Language) attracting students from as far away as Honduras and Iceland, its rugby league program attracting students from Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands and its International Student program with students from as far afield as Brazil and Germany and of course our local Australian and indigenous populations.

There is no doubt this diversity, assists with teaching and understanding in the classroom with students able to access cultural knowledge from their peers that is not so readily available in the homogenous environments in some schools.

There also seems to be some advantages in the sporting realm with students from these very different backgrounds able to come together and contribute to produce fantastic results.

“We all mix in really well and I think its all of us coming together that makes us a formidable opposition.” Said year 11 student Henare Wells.

“Ive met students from everywhere this year and they teach me as much as I teach them” He added.

This was evident this year at Keebra Park where Samoans and Tongans mixed in with Australians, Germans and Brazillians to take out three much sought after trophies.

First of all there was the Arrive Cup win, followed by the Queensland All Schools Touch Competition and most recently the Gold Coast 9 aside AFL championship.

Schools often fend off a fair bit of negative press in the mass media and stories such as this are a way for the students to let what they do in the classroom and the sporting field talk for them and their peers.

“We study the media industry as part of our sports specialisation program and realise that schools are an easy target for journalists and its disappointing but part of society today.”

Said Wells. “We’ll just keep on doing what we do best and make our parents and teachers and those who know us as proud as we can.” He Concluded. Well said Henare and well done boys.. LEARN MORE ABOUT KEEBRA PARK SHS
KEEBRA FLY HIGH TO TAKE OUT GOLD COAST AFL TITLE

While many readers may be familiar with Keebra Park State High School’s achievements in Rugby League, they may not know that many of this years Opens league team also featured heavily in the schools AFL side that won last months Gold Coast Secondary Schools AFL Championship.

Despite only one member of the squad ever having played AFL before, coach Ben Woolf thought it would be the perfect vehicle to engage the footy boys once the League season had finished.

“We invited the AFL out to the school to run some clinics with the grade 9 boys and from that came a suggestion that we enter some teams in this years 9 aside competition.

We decided it would be a great way to encourage the boys to keep motivated, while developing kicking and catching skills along with hand, eye co-ordination that is a vital component of all ball sports.” He said.

“In all 50 boys showed interest and trialled for the teams so we ended up submitting two Open age group teams.” He added.

The tournament was held at Carrara and involved schools from across the Gold Coast and Hinterland.

The two Keebra sides managed to make the semi-finals where they ended up playing each other with the A side progressing through to the grand final where they beat Helensvale SHS 64-10.

“We were confident that we were good athletes and knew that while we would be a bit rusty with regards to rules and AFL specific skills, we could compete if we kept our errors to a minimum.

The boys picked up the game really well and I’m sure their ability to perform at this level, surprised a few people.” He said.

“Some of the boys such as Henare Wells, Jordan Kahu, Anthony Utanga and Connor Toia were also part of the Arrive Alive Cup and Touch Qld, winning sides and to be able to cross code at this level in three different sports is quite amazing.”

Outstanding players throughout the competition were, Agnatius Paasi, Josh Robertson, Paddy Hohepa, Connor Toia, Ayden Harawira and Nofoa Leapai.

The Under 15 boys side also did well losing in a tight final against Benowa SHS.

“The AFL is something we will definitely continue to do with our league sides next year as it keeps them motivated and develops those extra skills that will set them apart as league players.” Concluded Coach Woolf.

ARRIVE ALIVE CHAMPIONS 2009

Well what a season 2009 has been for Keebra Park!

The successes of the junior teams was phenomenal in itself but the icing on the cake was the 18-12 victory over Sydney powerhouse Matraville Sports High school in the final of the Arrive Alive Cup.

While this game was the final and the game that clinched the title, it was just the last in a series of hard fought wins that started way back with the win over local rivals Palm Beach Currumbin.

For the past few years it has come down to these two Gold Coast League schools to see who will go on and represent South East Queensland in the QLD final of the Arrive Alive.

Both of these schools are strong with long, proud traditions in the sport and it is a shame that one of them has (by the nature of the competition) to bow out of the competition at this fairly early stage. Often the opposition in Sydney further down the track seem to be less formidable than the clash that is Keebra vs PBC.

Anyhow I digress and while we have been on the losing side of this fixture in the past few years, the boys put together a solid display of physical football and it was Keebra who progressed to play Kirwan SHS in Townsville.

Like PBC, Kirwan were a line up stacked with Queensland and Australian Reps and like PBC they felt the wrath of the dominant Keebra forwards who despite not featuring in any rep teams, knew they were the fittest, toughest, most dedicated side in the competition.

While many a coach maintains that if you compete long enough with big forwards they will eventually tire and the balance will swing in favour of the defendersâ?¦we disagree! if your forwards are fit enough and focussed they will go all day and this dedication and tradition is what we at Keebra pride ourselves on.

Ask any opposition player who felt the sting of Ben, Agnatius, Ice, Moseses, Reagan, Sam, Peter or Brandon and they will tell you that the impact they felt in the first tackle was still there at the end.

Kirwan were young and keen but fell short of the mark and it was next off to face the good ship Endeavour who had been sailing around Sydney with her masts full and flags flying for the past 3 or 4 years.

Captain Kahu and his crew of first mate Hemi, Henare, Jade, Matt, Bradley, Sione, and last but not least a character called Grasshopper who they had found in a field at the back of Nerang in grade 8, sailed valiantly off into the fray with cannons at the ready and an ample supply of nuts and bananas.

Shots were fired and the Endeavour span around and around before her hull lifted clear of the water and she sunk into the depths of Olympic Park leaving a cloud of smoke and hot air where once she had sailed.. the witnesses couldn't believe it's..never in the annals of history had a ship with such reputation been scuttled by a frigate of no-name sailors such as SHS Keebra.

Matraville were next and came out talking tough..We only want a safe passage through these rough waters called out Captain Kahu and if you let us pass we will go on our way.

Matraville had hardly lit the fuses on her cannons when like lightning Henare Wells had crossed her Bow's.. followed by Sione and Big Ben Murdoch.

Matraville turned tail and tried to escape but it was not to be and met the same watery fate as Endeavour.

Once again the assembled onlookers were in shock and awe as Captain Kahu took the Silver ware and headed for home.

Once in the quiet waters of the Broadwater the boys sat back and remembered what a great time was had by all this year and looked forward to sailing away in the New Year on another expedition into the unknown..

Special thanks to the other crew members who made this possible especially Anthony Utanga and Richie Powell.

Keebra Park gave the Matraville boys no time and charged forward thier big forwards with huge results.

The ball found its way to rampaging forward Benny Murdoch who ran, pushed and barged his way from teh 30 meter line to dive over for the second Keebra try of the AaC Grand Final.

Keebra Park are through to this years Arrive alive Cup grand final against mighty Matraville Sports High School.

Keebra shocked the crowd at ANZ stadium, closing down the game and successfully closing down the skilled Endeavour backs.

This is the 3 rd time these two highly rated schools have fought the Arrive alive duel, the previous 2 occasions were the 2005 & 2006 grand finals where Endeavour were the winners on both occasions.

Not this time, Keebra Park were the first to score in this semi final after they had half a dozen or more repeated sets inside Endeavour's 20 meter line.

Endeavour were marvelous in defence, dropping the attacking Queenslanders within millimeters of the try line.

The weight of possession eventually told and Keebra Park were able to break the Endeavour line when Sione Akoula scored, the conversion was straight thru the goal posts and the score was 6 - 0.

Endeavour finally held the ball for a full set, the footy was like a hot potato with the Sydney boys passing the ball along the line to Rass with flicked the ball to Tom Wishardt who was 10 cm from the line put the ball down and was smashed for his efforts, the kick from near the sideline hit the near post.

Endeavour were in again when Endeavour covered the length of the field in one set to see the Somoan flier DJ Percell had momentum to slide into the in goal to give his school the lead. Skipper John Nicholas converted to make the score 10 - 6.

It didn't take long in this mistake riddled game for Keebra to once again grab the lead when big Ben Murdock bashed his way through a few tired defenders to run the rest of the 40 meters to out the ball down under the black dot.

Keebra Park were very well organised in defence, they slide across, pick a defender and every man is involved, skipper and fullback Jordan Kahu is calm and clear in his instructions to the troops.

KEEBRA THROUGH TO FINALS IN BRONCOS COMPETITIONS.
Story By : KEEBRA PARK RL dhart
Its been another good week of football here at Keebra Park with both the Under 13's and the Under 15's progressing through to the finals of the Renouf Shield and the Walters Cup.

In the Under 15 Walters Cup the boys beat a gallant Wavell side 18-16 in a tough encounter. Best on field for Keebra were workhorse prop Sam Fattal and utility Costner Lemafa.

The boys are looking forward to their clash with PBC and a final win.

In the Thirteens the boys played hard and fast and were to big and strong for Marsden.

They now face competition front runners Sunnybank in what should be a cracker of a game.

Added to this the Opens will be flying off to face Endeavour SHS in what will be a rematch of the 2006 and 2007 grand finals in the Arrive Alive Cup.

Keebra are confident of a good team effort and will be working hard on shutting donwn the Endeavour danger men.

Good luck boys

Story By : KEEBRA PARK RL dHart
Well what a week its been at Keebra!!!!

First we had a victory in the Titans Cup with our Under 16 side beating PBC 20-14. This was a first for the Titans Cup boys so well done Mr Woolf.

They were to quick in the opening encounters and built a 16-0 half time score that PBC never really managed to reel in.

Special mention to Andrew Vella, Johnny Pati and Nofoa Leapi for outstanding seasons. Here's looking to next year and more success.

Then our 13 Premiers demolished St Mary's Toowoomba 72-0 with some great strong running and patient, structured play.

George Fai and Sigalu set a strong platform which was ably exploited by the speedy backs. Jayden Heu played a blinder on the wing and looks to have cemented a spot out wide.

The 14's progressed with a scrappy win over Kawana Waters from the Sunshine Coast.

The 15's came up against Ipswich Grammar and put on an awesome display of structured football. Halves, Zac Walsh and Dallas Wells showed some maturity in their ball playing that put player after player away into holes that saw the score exceed 50.

They are really coming together as a unit and have some exceptional talent. Well Done Quaid for making the Australian merit side and to Costner, Filo, Zac, Dallas and Tuila who all made various Qld rep sides.

The Opens came up against a talent stacked PBC at Pizzey Park this Wednesday and while many thought that they were just there to make up the numbers, the boys themselves had been quietly confident all week that they had the goods to come away with a win.

Boasting Jordan Rankin;s NRL experience and with 7 Titans Toyota Cup Players, 2 Australian Reps and 5 Qld players they were on paper an daunting proposition.

The boys knew they would have to be smart and play to their strengths and negate PBC'S strengths and in the end it was this battle that decided the game.

Our strengths were our go forward and their perceived strengths were the edges and the bomb.

Rankin put up spiralling torpedoes that came down with snow on, only to have Keebra fullback Jordan Kahu, leap above the opposition, wipe the snow laden pill clean with one hand and mould it into snowballs, while fending with the other and then make twenty metres through traffic, finding body position, getting a quick play the ball and puttting PBC on the backfoot while throwing snowballs at Mr Rankin.

Our go forward was constant and almost like watching a piston engine punching rhythmically through the opposition. Ignatius, Mosese, Ice, Ignatius, Mosese, Ice,Ignatius, Mosese, Ice, Ignatius, Mosese, Ice,Ignatius, Mosese, Ice,Ignatius, Mosese, Ice,.......you get the picture.

This disciplined commitment dragged the PBC edges into the fray and Keebra exploited the gaps.

At half time the score was 6-0 and while it wasn't the start Keebra had hoped for it seemed to take more out of the PBC boys than it did Keebra and this was evident with the boys being able to put on two tries.

One to Mosese and another to bustling Ben Murdoch.

Kahu then kicked a smart, demoralising field goal and it left too little time and too much to do for PBC.

It is always a shame that someone has to bow out with both these schools being worthy South Qld representatives but having been on the losing end of two close games in the past two years it was great to get back on the winners dias and to show that we are a school that has a long, proud tradition of rugby league and are as competitive as we have ever been.

With the juniors going so well it has been a great week of reassurance for all on staff at Keebra that what we are doing is working and that we are still innovating and at the cutting edge.

Well done boys and good luck as you move onto the next stages of the various competitions.

SCHOOLS TURN TABLES IN BCU TITANS CUP/CHALLENGE FINALS
Story By : GOLD COAST TITAN'S Media Release
Keebra Park SHS Under-16s and St Michaels College successfully turned the tables on their rivals in the grand finals of the BCU Titans Cup and Titans Challenge competitions at Glennon Park Nerang last night.

Grand final re-matches acted as the theme of the night, with Keebra Park SHS successfully avenging last year’s grand final loss to Palm Beach Currumbin SHS with a thrilling 20-14 victory in the BCU Titans Cup.

It was a similar scenario in the final of the BCU Titans Challenge, with St Michaels College accounting for the disappointment of a one-point loss in last year’s decider to come away with a 24-18 win over Robina SHS.

“It was a heartbreaking way to lose last year so tonight’s win makes the victory very pleasing,’’ said St Michaels coach Alan Wyper.

“We know they are a strong side but as we hadn’t played them in the rounds we didn’t really know what to expect.”

Player of the match was Brad Jones.

In the BCU Titans Cup final, Keebra Park scored three unanswered first half tries before PBC set up a tense finale after getting themselves back into the match at 16 - 14.

However, a late try to Keebra snuffed out any further chance of a PBC comeback.

“We are not a huge side but we do pride ourselves on playing well disciplined, structured football and that is really what got us our win today,’’ said Keebra coach Ben Woolf.

“We have kept the under - 16s together as a unit and it has a been a successful endeavour that will only see them continue to grow as a team next year .

Player of the match was Joseph Tago of Keebra Park SHS.

THRILLING FINALS IN THE TITANS CUP AND CHALLENGE.

Monday night saw the conclusion of this years Titans, Cup and Challenge competitions in front of a packed house at Glennon Park Nerang.

Since its inception in 2006, this knockout tournament has grown to be the premier schoolboy rugby league fixture in the local area and looks set to be even bigger in 2010.

Teams from across the Gold Coast and South Brisbane, battled out the rounds in term two and in both the Cup and the Challenge, the semi-finalists were decided on points for and against, a testimony to the closeness of the encounters.

TITANS CHALLENGE

ST MICHAELS COLLEGE 24 defeated ROBINA SHS 18

The CHALLENGE COMPETITION saw St Michaels College take on old rivals and defending champions Robina SHS in a re-match of the 2008 Grand Final.

In 2008 Robina slotted a last minute field goal to snatch the trophy from under the noses of a disappointed St Michaels team but tonight saw a reversal of fortune.

“It was a heartbreaking way to lose last year so tonight’s win makes the victory very pleasing.” Said St Michaels Coach, Alan Wyper.

“We know they are a strong side but as we hadn’t played them in the rounds we didn’t really know what to expect.”

Leading 8-0 at half time, St Michaels looked strong but a trio of unanswered Robina tries just after half time, put them on the back foot at 12-8 down.

“We were under the pump for a while there but our hunger and determination really got us back in the game and set the platform for our victory.

We managed to post a couple of six pointers and we defended well enough to keep them out.”

With a final score of 24-18 to St Michaels, their rivalry with Robina looks set to continue in 2010 and that is great news for both the competition and the fans.

TITANS CUP

KEEBRA PARK SHS 20 defeated PALM BEACH CURRUMBIN SHS 14

This years TITANS CUP Grand Final saw defending Champions PBC up against the Keebra Park Under 16’s side.

These teams have faced off in the final for the past three years with PBC being victorious on all three occasions.

With both schools having long, proud traditions in Rugby League it was always going to be a hard fought game and once again this fixture did not disappoint.

The first half was all Keebra Park with them scoring three unanswered tries and going into the sheds with a 16-0 platform that was to prove invaluable as the second half commenced.

“We know PBC were going to be a strong side who would play the full 60 minutes so we were happy that we had given ourselves a great start and had dominated the opening encounters with some great work by our forwards.” Said Keebra coach, Ben Woolf.

As the second half progressed it was PBC who took the game on and through some determined attack, managed to get themselves back into the game at 16-14.

This tense stalemate lasted for almost the entire last ten minutes, before Keebra Park scored another 4 pointer that snuffed out any further chance of a PBC comeback and gave Keebra a well deserved victory.

“We are not a huge side, but we do pride ourselves on playing well disciplined, structured football and that is really what got us our win today.” Said coach Woolf.

“We have kept the sixteens together as a unit and it has a been a successful endeavour that will only see them continue to grow as a team next year .” He added.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH was JOSEPH TAGO of Keebra Park SHS.
KEEBRA PARK LOOKING TO BE #1
Story By : Keebra Parks SHS - dHart
This week saw two of the Keebra Park Schoolboy sides progress into the next round of the Broncos competition.

The under thirteens faced Coombabah and played some well structured disciplined football that didnt give Coombabah a chance with the score blowing out to 76-0.

Although this game didnt really give the boys a chance to work on their defence around the ruck, it did show that they are capable of keeping their heads even when it would have been easy to play one out football.

They stuck to their game plan and worked as a team which was great for the coaching staff to see as this will stand them in good stead for the coming years, where whole team discipline and not individual efforts will secure them victories.

The fourteens also had a good 44-4 win over Wavell SHS and this will see them progress towards the final stages.

The Opens and Under 15s will also be in action this week, with Mr Gould's 15's eagerly awaiting their encounter with Victoria Point and the Open A's ready to take on Cavendish Road in the South East Qld Arrive Alive Cup match.

Both these games will be Pizzey Park and an update of the scores will be forthcoming.

In sadder news Mr Hart's well coached Titans Cup side were beaten by the Keebra Under 16's who now progress to the final and an encounter with PBC.

Well done boys and keep up the effort. LEARN MORE ABOUT KEEBRA PARK RUGBY LEAGUE

STORY & PHOTO : ourfootyteam logo
KEEBRA PARKS SHS & PBC have a few boys running around in the elite Cyril Connell (u16's) & Mal Meninga (u18's) Cup's and may get the chance to test them selves against some of the big Sydney teams in a few weeks time.

The Sydney teams are definitely looking forward to playing the Queensland boys when the top four sides in each comp come down to Sydney to play the top four teams from the NSWRL Harold Matthew's (u16's) & SG Ball (u18's) Cup's.

The Gold Coast Titans have been competing against the Sydney teams for the past 6 weeks and both the Harold Matthew's & SG Ball teams are keen to win this weekend in round 7 to stay in touch with the leaders.

Should be some good footy come finals time, go for it boys.
TRIALS BEGIN IN ERNEST

With season 2009 well and truly in sight, trials are set to begin at Keebra Park.

The new cohort of grade 8's are well and truly into training and looking like a team that could emulate the unbeaten antics of last years 8's.

The Nines are looking good. With only a couple of losses from last years team that won the Renouf Shield 74-0, however they have gained a number of juniors from as far afield as Tamworth and North Queensland.

The Under 15's have also profitted from the reputation the school has aquired across both Australia and New Zealand with a number of new recruits filling the ranks.

There are 80 students in the Open Divison with a number of students on contracts with the Wests Tigers and the Gold Coast Titans. The Wests Tigers players are looking particularly strong with gains throughout the forwards anda couple of useful looking halves.

Another positive addition to the school this year is the appointment of a Polynesian guidance officer who is on hand to work with the students for whom the schooling system is often different to the one they are used to andd often speak a language other than English at home.

These innovations, coupled with the rigorous training schedule are sureto make 2009 a Blockbuster yeab at "The Park' , so good luck boys and lets bring it on

KEEBRA CLEAN SWEEP INTO FINALS

Its been a most successful week for Keebra Park with all teams in all ages blasting their way into the premier finals.

The thirteens will face Wavell after beating a strong Cav Road side 40 - 0.

Jayden Warbrick and Perry laid a strong foundation up front that was exploited by their speedy backline.

The boys will face Wavell at Pizzey Park.TBA

The fourteens were 20 - 6 down at halftime but managed top claw back to topple Wavell 22 - 20 with minutes to go.

This will have been a good learning experience that they need to hit the game running and show more urgency and commitment rather that play "Catch up Football", in the finals.

Some good running and leadership from Costner Lemafa was the driving force behind this victory.

They will now face PBC at Pizzey Park. TBA

The fifteens faced Mountain Creek and lost two key players in James Dunley and Andrew Vella to see themselves 10-6 down at the break.

Some good maturity from Geordie Penrose, Matt Beddow and Taylor Feeney saw the emerge 26-20 winners afetr a blitz in the middle of the second half.

They did slacken off toward sthe end of the game and let Mountain Creek in for a couple of soft tries and will need to work on that aspect of the game as they face PBC at Pizzey Park in the final. TBA

Likewise the Opens will play PBC In the South East Final of the Arrive Alive Cup at Pizzey Park next wednesday after baeting Wavell 32-6 at Suncorp last Friday.

Keebra will go into this game as confident but with the local underdog tag due to PBCS flurry of Australian players and NRL debutante Jordan Rankin.

This game is on Wednesday 27th at Pizzey Park.
KEEBRA PARK STILL ALIVE IN AAC
Keebra Park SHS have continued their tradition of National Arrive alive Cup contenders again in 2008.

Keebra Park belted Wavell SHS on Friday to the tune of 32 - 6 in a powerful display of schoolboys rugby league to move onto the next stage of the Arrive alive Cup

Good luck boys
TOOWOOMBA OR BUST

This week sees the commencement of the final stage of the Broncos Competitions with the school 13 and 14 sides travelling to Toowoomba to face of against St Mary's.

The boys are fired up after a few weeks off and raring to go. Both teams are at pretty much full strength so these results should give the boys a fair idea as to where they stand against their peers.

The Opens have just returned from a trip to Sydney where they played the Wests Tigers Cubs in preparation for there do or die South Queensland semi final against Wavell SHS which will be played at Suncorp Stadium on the 15th of July.

All squads are looking good and are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things as the business end of the season approaches.

KEEPING IT ON THE RAILS

With the celebrity status that today's sportsmen and women enjoy, they have become the focus of increased media attention.

Both on and off the field they are constantly under scrutiny and it is important that they are equipped to deal with this sometimes sudden status.

A man who has achieved at the highest levels in Rugby League for club, State and Country and who always presents himself impeccably is Origin legend Steve Renouf.

In July this year and in conjunction with Queensland Rail, Keebra Park was lucky enough to host Steve as he spoke to out footballers about the demands and expectations that go along with belonging to an elite programme.

Steve told the boys that when he first joined the Brisbane Broncos, Wayne Bennett had told him that from now on he was representing the team whenever he was in public and not only when he was playing, and this was something he had worked on maintaining.

He spoke of how being identifiable as a member of any team, whether it be The Broncos or Keebra Park, meant that the public form opinions about you and it was easy for those opinions to be negative. He also spoke of how bad behaviour in public is not a cultural thing it is a personal choice and that we as people are responsible for those choices.

Steve was well received and fielded questions from the boys on how to make sure that they presented a positive image of themselves and their school and also a few questions regarding his long career.

After the session Steve took the squad down to the oval and imparted a few of the secrets that earned him his 'Black Pearl' nickname.

The school would like to thank Steve for spending the time on what has become a very hot topic in a time of intense media scrutiny.

QUEENSLAND SELECTIONS A SIGN OF SUCCESS

With the recent schoolboy "State Championships" being contested in both the under 15 and Open age groups, it has been great news for Keebra with 4 students named in the 15's and 4 in the Open Queensland sides.

James Dunley, Michael Dunlop, Taylor Feeney and Matt Beddow were selected in the under fifteens and Vaha Pulu, Bodie Clarke, Corey Norman and Blake Leary in the Opens.

This is an awesome dianostic tool for us at the school working withinn the program as it is a real measure of the success and development we are achieving.

There were a few other boys who narrowly missed out but they will continue to work hard and are sure to attain their goals of a career in the NRL.

This week will see the boys in both age groups contest games against local rivals PBC and theses games are sure to be hard fought and a great spectacle for all follows of the junior game.

Do yourself a favour and get behind the boys as they head into the business end of the season and see some of the future talent on show.
SEASON SO FAR

Well with the first few rounds of both the local schools and the Broncos challenge out of the way its time for a bit of a look at how things are going and a general update of all things "FOOTY".

In the local schools competition the 13 A's are travelling along well and are unbeaten thus far, as are the 14B's who have had some high scoring victories over some spirited opponents. The 15's are not unbeaten but still top their comp and should feature in the crossover finals.

In the Monday night Titans competition the Open A side had a good win over Coombabah and look like the side to beat. Mr Stephens has been happy with their structure and the way the have stuck to their basic yet effective game plan.

The Titans B side did not fair so well against a strong Marymount side who showed discipline and got away with a lop sided 30-6 win.
Coach Mr Hart was far from impressed with this result as although the boys did not deserve to win, they could have stemmed the tide. Hopefully next week will see a turn around in attitude.

"We cant complete one set out of eight and have zero props taking the ball up and expect to stand even half a chance " he said.

"We will need to stick to our basic game plan and play basic football if we are to build a platform for the later stages of the competition" he added.

In the Struddys competition which is the Open B comp.

Mr Richard's side have shown good composure and discipline to remain unbeaten against some much bigger and more fancied opposition.

These results really do prove that a well coached side who sticks to a basic game plan and does the little things right consistently will prevail over less structured more fancied sides.

The Opens are also unbeaten having gained wins over Mountain Creek, Marsden and Wavell with the big test coming up against Palm Beach in a few weeks.

Vaha Pulu and Ben Murdoch are showing good form early on and hooker Dean Parata seems to have slotted in to the side well.

Onto the NRL and its good to see a total of 5 graduates now in the NRL. Benji and Ben Teo at Wests,Greg Eastwood at the Broncos, Rangi Chase at St George and now Sam Moa who got a run at Cronulla at the weekend.

Sam was a great ambassador for Keebra and its good to see him make his debut.

He came off the bench and made a number of crunching tackles and a gained a good few yards in hit ups. WELL DONE SAM.

Another player to watch out for is Manly's Kenny Edwards who had a good run in the Toyota Cup at the weekend and looks all set to continue on his way to the top grade.
Keebra Park Rugby League logoGRADUATES RETURN HOME FOR TRIAL SHOWDOWN.

With Keebra Park set to field 5 Open sides, and three in each of the junior year levels it has been a busy start to the season with the next event on the calendar being a trip up to Mountain Creek to face off against the Sunshine Coast powerhouse.

Coached by Rob Brough from Family Feud fame, the Creekers are always a strong outfit and will be a good indicator of how our own preparation is going. "We asked 100 people if it would be a good day and they all said yes"

This will also be a good run out for our junior players and any support would be greatly appreciated.

However it is not just on the school ovals that Keebra have been hitting the headlines, with 7 ex graduates featuring in last weekend's NRL and Toyota Cup trials against the Titans.

Matt Parata scored a well worked try in the Premier League game against Tweed Seagulls and looks set to work his way back into the Twenties side.

Damon Harth and Soeli Makaui seemed quite at home steering the Wests Tigers Toyota Cup side around the park and to victory and were met in opposition by two more ex-Keebra boys in Kingi Akoala and Bodene Thompson who have Titans Contracts.

In the NRL Game, Benji Marshall and Ben Teo flew the school flag and whilst they did not come away with a victory it was a good hit out for the boys and they did us proud.
