HILLS WIN BACK TO BACK WORLD SCHOOLBOY CHAMPIONSHIPS

HILLS SHS PRINCES OF THE UNIVERSE
The Hills SHS backed up from last year to again win the National ARL Schoolboys Cup at WIN Stadium on Friday afternoon in front of a large crowd with both schools sending busloads of supporters to help all the families and friends cheer their teams on.
In what was a sensational game of schoolboys footy, Matto were quick to start scoring when Joe Uhi stormed thru some weak defence to score in the corner, then The Hills started to move the ball with skill and took the lead with 3 first half tries.
The Hills held a 16 - 4 half time lead thank to tries to Jordan Horo, skipper, Doony Heather & Keiran Mossto win the Grand Final with too much speed, but it was close 20 - 22 was the final result.

This years Schoolboy Cup Competition was divided into two divisions (non-elite and elite) with over 450 High Schools from around the country competing to be crowned the Top Rugby League School in Australia.
Our school along with 15 others from NSW and QLD have been competing in the “elite” rugby league school competition and have progressed to the final by defeating Erindale College 54-6, St Dominique’s College 30 to 18, St Gregory’s College 22 to 6 and Holy Cross College 34 to 18 in our Semi final.

UNLUCKY KIRWAN BOW OUT OF FINALS WITH IGNATIUS PARK
Story & Photo By : MICHAEL THOMPSON
NORTH Queensland will not be represented in this year's Queensland final of the National Youth Cup after Townsville schools Kirwan State High and Ignatius Park College sustained semi-final defeats yesterday.
Kirwan were knocked out by Gold Coast school Keebra Park State High 16 - 6 in controversial circumstances at Jack Manski Oval.
Kirwan back Clinton Conway was disallowed a try that match officials waived for an apparent lost ball with five minutes remaining and his team trailing only 10-6.
That try and a subsequent conversion would have put the Bears 12-10 in front and the visitors would have found it difficult to claw back the lead.
Keebra Park led 6-0 at halftime before an unconverted try after the break stretched their advantage to 10-0.
But Kirwan's Kieran Mosley crossed the line to start a fightback that very nearly overwhelmed the strongly-fancied southerners.
Ignatius Park travelled to Brisbane and played another Gold Coast powerhouse in Palm Beach Currumbin, and it was Palm Beach who progressed to the final with an 18-12 win.
Kirwan coach Dave Ackers said his players had given Keebra Park a fight they would not easily forget.
"We finished off as North Queensland champions and Queensland semi-finalists and I can't be more proud of the boys," he said.
"They (Keebra Park) know, from talking to them after the game, that they were lucky to get away with that.
"We knew they would get tired around the ruck late in the game and we produced the play to win it, but the blow of the whistle didn't go our way ... we can't change that.
"The boys gave everything that they had and we're all very proud of them." |

HOLY CROSS STAY ALIVE IN SCHOOLBOYS CUP
Story By : S FARRELL
Great game today from Holy Cross in the Schoolboys cup. Holy Cross controlled the game early and were unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get over the line.
A poor kick chase allowed the Bass Hill winger (woffa?) to make a strong run down the right flank before he linked up with a couple of support players to score 15m in from touch 6-0. Holy Cross hit straight back with after a great break by centre Nathan Milone who beat 3 and raced 40m before linking up with Luke Brooks on the inside who ran 15m to score next to the posts, converted by Matty Woods 6-6.
Bass were in again when a high bomb swirled and was touched by Holy Cross before going dead, Croos were then penalised after a player was offside from the drop out. A quick tap by Australian Schoolboys Brendan Santi caught Cross out and he managed to bump off 2 defenders to cross under the posts, 12-6 which took us into half time.
A couple of mistakes early in the tackle count kept Cross under pressure in the second half. Bass Hill had all of the running and field position but great defence from the Holy Cross Boys forced Bass Hills into error whenever they looked like getting over the line.
With around 10 to go a high bomb from Holy Cross was spectacularly caught by Nathan Milone who managed to beat a defender to cross out wide for a try, great conversion from Daniel Vasik squared things up at 12-12.
An attempted 40/20 by Cross ran dead and looked as if the game was heading for a draw but when the Bass Hill winger raced the ball back to the 20 he took a quick tap before his own players could get onside. A penalty to Cross and no mistake from Matthew Woods to give Cross a 14-12 victory.
Bass Hill were there own worst enemies, shoulder charges, head highs and continual infingements lead to the sin binning of 2 players throught the game. best for Holy Cross were Nathan Milone and Daniel Vasek, while Brendan Santi was Bass's best. |

THE HILLS SHS WIN ARL SCHOOLBOYS CUP
Story By : NSWRL
Photo's BY :
The Final of the ARL Schoolboy Cup was contested at Suncorp Stadium this afternoon between Keebra Park State High and The Hills Sports High School.
Played in front of thousands of family and friends in the grandstands, the match lived up to its final's billing with just the four points separating the two teams come full-time.
With a big home ground advantage it was expected by some quarters that Keebra Park would be the side to hold aloft the ARL Schoolboy Cup, but in somewhat of an upset it was The Hills Sports High who proved too good on the day.
After leading 12-6 at the main break the Hills were able to extend their lead further to hold an 18-10 advantage late in the match and despite a consolation try to Keebra in the dying moments it was the Hills lead by the eventual Peter Sterling Medal Winner in Gerard McCallum that were able to hold on.
The ARL and all of its affiliates would like to congratulate not only The Hills Sports High and Keebra Park State High on a wonderful final, but also all of the sides that contested either the Schoolboy Cup or the Schoolboy Trophy in 2010.
Both competitions have proved hugely successful and we look forward to an even bigger and better 2011. |
