PLAYED BLACK CATS
RESULT: - Won 26 - 6
MOM Points 3) Jack Holt 2) Sam Cooper 1) Rob Snow, Luke Chisholm, Harry Richardson.

Well the 2009 G/F rematch certainly lived up to what I thought it would be.

This week we saw some huge hits in defence that didn't stop for the whole game.

Actually one of the last tackles of the game that Tripa made was just as good as the first lot that the BC'Ts tried to put on us.

There was plenty of feeling & tension as the game started at a very fast pace. Ball control was a little scratchy throughout but with the defence of both teams being so hard it was not surprising. After the first 5 or so minutes we started to look the more likely side to score first, which was the case after a superb kick by Chis & some nice work by Harry to score out wide.

Sam kicked the goal & we were up 6 - 0 after 10 mins.

The forwards led by Holty & backed up by Whitto, Isaac, Tripa, Bults & Steely laid a great foundation for us to get that momentum you need when playing good sides. This allowed the backs to start to play the type of footy that really gets the crowd going.

After some real slick backline moves we again got into some great attacking positions, finally Tommy was at the end of one & they were never going to stop the flash as he used his pace to get around his opposite & beat a few more on the way to scoring in the 14th minute.

We missed the kick & it was 10 - 0 to us. For the next 10 mins till ½ time it was tough going with defence the order of the day. Sam, Blake, Pat, Harry, Chis & Tommy all made telling tackles that stopped what could have been trouble for us, all the time Dean was organising things from the back really well. Gus, Jack H, Matt Adams & Snowy were all doing their job off the bench which helped heaps.

The 2nd half started just as the first did more big hits, more talk & more great play from us. After being on our own line for a couple of sets things were getting tough, that was until my ex-2nd rower Pat (now winger) took an intercept about 15 metre's from our own line & pinned his ears back.

Well I must have been the only one besides his mum that thought that he would score but score he did right under the black dot after an 85 metre sprint that really shocked the opposition. We kicked the goal & were leading 16 - 0.

Twelve minutes in & Holty scored the first of his 2 unstoppable tries with just pure brute strength. We missed the kick so its 20 - 0 to us.

After making some changes & also having Hodgo get a corked thigh we conceded a try under the posts after we failed to round up a kick & it was then 20 - 6 us.

With Matt Adams having his best game off the bench ever & Snowy playing tough I was able to rest a couple of the boys. Then with 3 minutes on the clock Holty stepped up for another one of his barnstorming runs to beat about 6 of the opposition to score the last try of the game which we converted.

The final score was 26 - 6 to us.

The team played well & ignored the niggle which was nice to see even if I did have to yell just once or twice. So that makes it not a bad start to the season for us, I just hope we keep up the effort at training & on game days. Remember Dom, Jason & I need you at training as much as possible please.

Thanks to all the families & supporters for being there, its always nice to see how more the boys try when you are all there cheering them on.

After an unlucky loss to the Canterbury Bulldogs on Saturday, the SG Ball minor premiers continue in this years race for this years SG Ball supremacy.

The Sharks take on the Sydney Roosters at St. mary's Stadium, St. Marys, it's an early kickoff, 10:30 am this Saturday.

In the week 1 final of the NSWRL SG Ball Cup, the Sharks were tested by the Bulldogs who were only beaten by 2 points against the Sharkies in the round 8 clash.

The Bulldogs won this one by 2 points and took advantage of a couple penalities in front of goal where the Doggies decided to take the points and were successful in both attempts.

It was a great game of football with both team putting thier bodies on the line for their teammates, the Sharks were well served again by their confident forwards,

PLAYED:- SUTHO
RESULT: - WON 14 - 12

MOM Points 3) Luke Chisholm - 2) Sam Cooper 1) Jack Holt

This was always going to be tough as Sutho have built up a very strong squad this year. Well I think that we played our â?oGet out of Jail Free card today as the score might suggest.

In the first half we played well in general play but our kicking game was not up to scratch, this gave Sutho some better than expected field position.

Our kickers just weren't getting the cover & support that the team should have been giving them. Our forwards were tackling a much bigger pack & never stopped throughout the whole first half, which is what I have come to expect.

We bombed a couple of tries in the first few minutes that could have set us up well for the game. Zac, Blain, J W, Isaac, Jack, Jackson, Ranga & Lordy were all getting stuck in with & without the ball.

The backs were going well with Chis & Sam organising things, Harry, Pat, Tommy, Steve & Dean were playing as well as the opposition would let them.

Pat chased (about 70metres) & pulled off one of the best covering tackles to stop a try that you'll ever see. We gifted the sutho 2nd rower a try from ½ way when he held onto a loose ball from us to make it 6 - 0 to them at a time.

In the 2nd half we start very well & put pressure on them straight away when Chis crossed after 3 minutes. We missed the kick (6 - 4 them).

Jackson hurt his shoulder & went off at this time, not to return.

This left us a man short. From the kick off we started again making good ground & setting up for our next attack after Sutho held us out. 7 minutes in now & JW scored a brilliant try that put us up(8 - 4).

The game seemed to settle into a real battle for the next 6 - 7 minutes until we let Sutho score a soft try in the corner which they converted (12 - 8 them).

The two Matt's got on in the second half with one of them scoring the match winning with 4 1/2 minutes to go that being Matt Murray. He got over under the post to make the conversion as easy as possible (14 - 12 us).

Our defence then held out for the rest of the game to give us a win which at some stages didn't look like was going to happen.

With 5 different players sitting off each week we will take time to gel across the park but that will happen & when it does we will be an even tougher opponent for the other teams to play. Keep getting to training & working hard as this is a must if we are to keep going & improving.

CRONULLA SHARKS (1) VS CANTERBURY BULLDOGS (4)

It’s 1 v 4. How good are the Cronulla Sharks going?

They created history last weekend by becoming the first Sharks team in history to be minor premiers in the SG Ball Cup.

The surfie boys from “the Shire” in Sydney’s south are now my competition favourites. They come into the finals race in good form after knocking over South Sydney last week 44-0.

They have also recorded wins against competition heavyweights Roosters, Storm and Bulldogs. Their only loss was in round two when Penrith defeated them 30-24 in a close one at CUA Stadium.

Some of their players are really “A” class. Take Elvis look-a-like Joel Tubbs. The big prop not only has a big appetite for food but he loves the work. The north coast product is now one of the best props in the competition.

Second rower DJ Lokeni Purcell is the go-to man in this impressive squad at present. He has one mission in life; tackle everything that moves above grass level and boy does he do a good job of that.

And just when you see DJ getting replaced for a well deserved break on comes James “Hitman” Hasson who knows how to shorten the opposition up with his fierce tackling.

Then you have former Eel Rodney Moefaauo who has added much needed starch to the Sharks pack. Wouldn’t the Eels love to have this bloke in their pack this year?

The halves pairing of Sam Clune and Penani Manumalealii is one of the best in the competition rivaling that of the Eels “two Jasons”, Seage and Wehbe.

These two teams met in round eight at Chester Hill on Easter Thursday night. The Sharks won in a close encounter 18-16.

If the Dogs have any chance in this game they must close down boom centre Luke Pickerd who has crossed the line thirteen times this season.

The former Australian under 15 player really challenges the line and his defence is also strong. He should be a contender for the NSW under 18 team this year.

I think the surfie boys have a slight edge in the forwards and a major edge in the halves where Sam Clune and Penani Manumalealii have dictated terms all year. Surfies by 12 points.

MAN of the MATCH POINTS

3) Zac Steele
2) Jack Holt
1) Sam Cooper, Isaac O'Brien & Blain Cunneen

Started the game off by doing what I've asked for the last 6-7 yrs by actually catching the ball from the kick-off, unfortunately we dropped it when it was passed to put ourselves under pressure straight away.

This gave the Colts a few early sets on our line which we held out pretty well.

When we finally got our hands on the ball we made some good ground to get down to the right end of the field.

The game then settled down to a tough hard yards type of affair. At the 7 minute mark we were able to put up a very nice kick which was taken by Blake who planted the ball down for our first try,

Dean missed the kick (4 nil ).

From the kick-off we settled into some good footy with Zac, Monty, Isaac, JW, Holty & Blain making good ground.

Sam & Jack H were getting the forwards going in the right direction with the backs doing there part.

At the 14 minute mark we were over again out wide after Isaac charged onto a good ball in the backs to beat 3-4 players (8 nil).

The rest of the half we struggled a bit with ball control which put us under more pressure than we should have been, this led to a Colts try 5 minutes before half time( 8 - 4 ). At half time we spoke about cutting out the mistakes & hitting hard in defence. Ball control was one of the main talking points at the break as well.

2nd half got under way & we were looking better as a team both in attack & defence.

In the 3rd minute Steve went over in the corner for a great wingers try, Sam missed from out wide (12 - 4).

Both teams then got stuck into each other with a few big hits & some real solid defence, this seemed to affect Colts more than us.

At the 12 minute mark Zac scored in the corner after some good lead up work by the backs Harry, Blake, Pat & Hodgo all taking some pressure off the forwards with goods runs out of dummy half & in general play.

Great kick from the side line by Jackson (18 - 4). 3 minutes later we were in again, this time Harry crossed in the corner after a huge run by Snowy that set up the try. Dean missed the kick (22 - 4).

With Tripa, Snowy, Muz & Jackson all coming off the bench & giving us great support across the park we were able to put Colts out of the game & with 7 minutes to go Dean scored in the corner after some

more solid efforts from the likes of Harry, Pat, Holty, Zac, Monty, & the rest of the forwards. Jackson missed from out wide (26 - 4).

With the minutes & seconds then ticking away Tripa crossed for a great try right on the bell which Dean converted from the sideline with the rest of the team all supporting him (32 - 4).

The 2nd half effort was a good one with only one drop ball & good support play in both attack & defence. We will only improve as the year goes on with Dom Cooper as co-coach as he has had an affect on the team already.

It's a good sign when you guys listen to & learn something new & actually put it to use in the game.

Now that we have finalised the team with 22 players I would like to see more of you at training both nights & for those that can't make it you MUST call either Trish, Dom or me on the night that you won't be there.

If you can't do this you will be sidelined for the next game. To the new guys & there families welcome to the club & I hope you have an enjoyable year with us, & to the old boys & your families thanks for putting up with me for another year.

SG BALL SHARKS BITE THE BULLDOGS
ourfootyteam logo
The Sharks under-18 SG Ball side continued its march to the semi finals with a hard fought 18-16 victory over fellow finals contenders the Canterbury Bulldogs, while the Matthews Sharks were beaten 30-22 in a matches played at Terry Lamb Complex at Chester Hill on Thursday night.

The Sharks have struggled to overcome the Bulldogs in the past but in a game bringing the second and third placed sides together it was destined to become a cracker.

It was the Sharks who always seemed to hold the upper hand, building on a 6-0 lead at the half time break, before going ahead 12-4, then 18-10, however a late Bulldogs try brought the home team within two points but the Sharks held firm during a tense final few minutes to record an impressive victory.

The Sharks forwards stood up against a bigger opposition pack, while in the backs the likes of winger Ben Stratton and Daniel Moroko, along with centre Luke Pickerd, relieved many a dangerous situation while threatening the Bulldogs defence on numerous occasions with clever ball running. Halves Penani Manu and Sam Clune also controlled proceedings well in leading their team to victory.

In the earlier match the Matthews Sharks climbed back into the contest in the second period but after giving up a big half time lead couldnt peg the Bulldogs back in going down by 30-22.

Behind by 24-4 at the break the Sharks closed the gap to within just two at 24-22 behind, however a late Bulldogs try, followed by a penalty goal as a result of prop Daniel Byrne's second sin-binning of the match, put the result beyond doubt.

On eight competition points the Matthews Sharks will now need a win in their last regular season match against Souths and other results to go their way if they hope to make the upcoming final series.

SHARKS BEAT STORM AT OWN GAME
ourfootyteam logo
The Cronulla Sharks travelled to Melbourne on Saturday morning for their round 4 clash with the undefeated Melbourne Storm team at Princes Park and beat the Storm at their own game.

From the kickoff the Storm knocked on giving the Sharks the footy and the surfie boys started to apply some pressure and from that moment had the Storm boys under the pump for the entire game.

In the 9 th minute Sharks half Sam Clune passed a short ball to a flying Luke Pickerd who successfully burrowed his way over the line, the conversion was unsuccessful, Sharks up 0 - 4.

Four minutes later the Sharks were in again when Clune passes a short ball to Tyrone Viiga who crashed over using brute strength, Sharks 0 - 10

After some intense pressure and excellent ball handling the Sharks Clune made a half break to get the ball to Brendan Sexty from an inside pass to score next to the posts, James Hasson converted, Sharks 0 - 16

A few minutes before half time last years grand finalists turned it on when Australian Schoolboys fullback Maipele Morseu got outside the Sharks defenders and threw the ball to Kirisome Auva'a who ran flat out and passed inside to the speedy Richard Kinnar who scored in the corner, unfortunately Adam Milgate missed the conversion.

Melbourne found them selves down by 12 points at half time.

The Cronulla Sharks SG Ball side is on track for a great 2010 after defeating the visiting WA Reds side from Perth.

Just like last week against Penrith the Sharks made too many basic errors in handling and dropped too much ball.

SHARKS SKIRMISH HEAPS OF FUN
The New season is just around the corner and the Sharks junior rep's are doing the hard work early.

Congratulations to Mr. Steve Holtz & Mr. Dave Howlett on their promotions in the coaching deptartments.

Dave Howlett has been promoted to be the Head coach of the Sharks SG Ball side for 2010 and Steve Holz is now the Sharks Matthew's Cup head Coach.

At last nites training, both the Matty's & SG Ball squads played an intense skirmish with the Matty's Cup boys mostly holding their own.

Enough words, here are some fotos!

CAMERON KING REFLECTS ON A BIG 2009
ourfootyteam.com
Cameron King is a country boy come good in the big smoke. Hailing from the country he also brought his humble country work ethics and values and these have helped turn this boy from Wagga Wagga into one of the elite of Australian sport.

2009 was a dream year for young Cameron and we spoke to one of his coaches at Endeavour Sports High School, Mr Brad Kelly, who was kind enough to tell us some of Cameron’s achievements through 2009.

"Cameron arrived at Endeavour SHS in year 9 and he ended up staying at the school for 4 years.

"2009 was a pretty stellar year for him, he has probably achieved more this year than any other student who has gone through our rugby league program.”

"Cameron has been great in terms of his leadership qualities not just in the games - but at training and his attitude around the school", said Mr Kelly.

Some of Cameron’s achievements through 2009 include :

AWARDS :

Endeavour SHS DAU MEDAL - which is recognition an individual who has made the most out standing on & off field contribution to the rugby league program at Endeavour SHS.

Endeavour SHS "PLAYER of the YEAR

ASSRL - PLAYER of the SERIES - Australian Schoolboys v Great Britian Community Lions

ASSRL - MAN of the MATCH - 1st TEST

NSWCHS - Sydney East BLUE
NSWCHS - NSWCHS BLUE

NSWCHS - VAL LEMBIT AWARD - the VAL LEMBIT AWARD is awarded to the most outstanding male athlete in NSW at CHS level

REP TEAMS :

Australian Schoolboys (Captain) v Great Britian Community LIONS

NSW Under 18 ORIGIN
(NSW Captain) v Queensland Under 18's

NSW CHS Under 18's -
(NSWCHS CAPTAIN)
ASSRL Championships at Newcastle

St. George Dragons - TOYOTA CUP TEAM

ENDEAVOUR SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL - Arrive alive Cup - semi finalists

ENDEAVOUR SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL - NSWCHS UNIVERSITY SHIELD - Grand Finalists

Cameron said he owed a lot to his biggest supporter, his Mum who has been there for him and gone through the highs and lows and dragged him around to games and training since he started playing footy at the ripe old age of 4.

President of the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League (ASSRL) Mr. Bruce Wallace couldn’t praise Cameron enough. "Cameron is the first rugby league player since Blake Green in 2004 to win the award. Just to be nominated for the Val Lembit Award is huge - and to win it is sensational.”

“It's a marvelous achievement seeing as Ian Thorpe one it twice in 1997 and 1998”, said Mr Wallace.

Below we have exclusively for ourfootyteam readers an interview with the man himself.
