A big crowd of parents and excited school kids watched a good game of footy between this year regional finalists of the Arrive alive Cup.

Crounlla High had good enthusium from the start of the game, they just didnt have anyone who took control of the game and lacked some of the skills of the Aquinas College side.

REVENGE IS SWEET.

Cronulla Caringbah U15A v De La Salle U15A
Final Score 28 - 14
Saturday, 17 May 2008

The game got off to a quick start with De La taking advantage of a Cronulla mistake they regathered the ball and made it look easy down the clubhouse side to scoring in the corner.

Luke Manahan missed the conversion. 4-0 Cronulla’s Michael Lichaa put the “kick off” right up in the air and it carried with the wind ending up over the dead ball line.

Soon after Cronulla’s utility forward Luke Brown who is pushing for a development squad jersey got a nice overlap and shoved his way over for a try. Michael got the conversion.

6-4 The next try was all De La’s fast talking Rory Hood who took a moment off from directing traffic to steal a brilliant intercept and score under the posts. Luke Manahan potted it over for a 10-6 lead.

Possession is key and Cronulla were soon back into it with some good ball down on De La’s line to for Cronulla struck back soon after with a barging run by big Tokerau Raru “Toks” to score almost right under the posts.. Michael kicked the conversion 12-10 for Cronulla.

It wasn’t all straight shooting for Cronulla who got the “wobbly” boot and started dropping balls and making some fundamental errors which let De La have 3 sets of six on their line.

Reece Davidson smashed through a hit from Joseph to score near the posts. Luke hit the posts on the conversion attempt but it bounced away. 14 – 12 De La’s way.

The second half seemed to be a different game with Cronulla Caringbah forwards winning the war in and around the ruck. Big “Toks” made ground up the middle as did the smaller but no less enthusiastic Jeremy Saville.

Michael threw a great “dummy” which left the De La defence saying “where did he go “and scored. 18-14
Cameron Paddy did the same zipping through the gap to score shortly after and capped off a really good game from the little “General” 22-14

Cronulla’s had the bulk of the possession in the 2nd half and they converted it into points however Big Zach Wedersveiler didn’t give up and make some great yards up the middle of the Cronulla pack.

De La threatened Cronulla line on a number of occasions with Jackson Clarke making a break.

The Cronulla defence hung in despite Nick Radcliffe doing all he could for De La and showing why he is a form player this year.

Luke Manahan was seeing stars after a hard collision with the powerful running Rea Pittman and Stacey Morrel showed great pace to score a nice one in the corner. Michael Lichaa continued his great form from the sideline with a last minute wind change carrying the ball back inside the sticks.

28-14 There’s no love lost between these two teams.

It’s a bit of a “State of Origin” affair but it’s good to see the boys shake hands and wish each other well after the game. The De La boys were vanquished today but the look in their eye said “we’ll get you next time”

The victorious Cronulla Caringbah team left feeling a little chuffed with a hard fought victory under the belt.

ROUND 6 UPDATE
Captain Cook oval was again the center of attention with a coupe of fantantic games of under 15's rugby league.

De La Salle u 15'b (2) have been a team on the move, saturday they faced Gymea who put a bit of a scare into the competition leaders De La side last week missing taking home the game by only 1 point, was it that little sneak Ellis that popped a filed goal, De La (2) bravely fought back from a 2 tries down with 2 great team tries to level the scores at the later stages of the game.

Gymea however were good enough to control the game and put on the winning tries, well done to both of these team.

The much vaunted De La Salle U15a's played the much improved Engadine Dragons.

The Dragons turned up to Capt Cook oval with the eye of the tiger in them, wow, what a display we saw from the Engadine boys.

Engadine play very well against De La & combined well with a simple game plan that is deadly, close down the De La halves, restrict the ball getting to the De La forwards, then their speedy backs don't come into the equation at all. This doesn't allow the De La backs into the game.. LEARN MORE

CRONULLA CARINGBAH U15 A’S V GYMEA U/15A’S

Every game has 2 halves, in this one they were completely different!

The first half continued a pattern of drop balls allowing field position, possession and an easy try to the Gymea Gorillas who played smart, simple footy to be in the lead at half time. Gymea’s Jack Somerfield consistently put the ball down into the far end of the Cronulla’s half putting pressure on them and forcing them to run it out.

No. 8 for Gymea and their fullback did some good tackling. With No. 1 making a good run past about three Cronulla defenders.

Rea Pittman made a great return from Mathews Cup with strong line breaks throughout the entire game.

Strong words from coach Joe Lichaa at second half saw an invigorated Cronulla Caringbah side take the field. Joseph Drinkwater answered the call with an awesome run through the middle of the Gymea defence to put it down under the posts. Michael Lichaa popped the conversion over.

TRIES : Joseph Drinkwater, Stacey Morrel 2, Jeremy Saville

This seemed to be the tipping point in the game and from here on in it was one way traffic as Michael put Stacey Morrel into a gap and he scored in the corner.

Michael kicked a cracker conversion from the sideline.

Cronulla’s defence muscled up with Clinton Strickland, Michael , Scott Sorenson, Luke Brown, Jeremy Saville all outstanding, at times driving Gymea backwards. Stacey got another try in the corner and Michael kicked it again. Jeremy scored a great individual “palm off” try in the corner.

Gymea showed plenty of promise though in the first half with good inside passes, strong runs and good steady football but couldn’t keep up the pace for the whole game.

The game was played in great spirit, with congratulations to both teams and spectators.

ROUND FIVE WRAP UP U 15A's

This week saw the return to the Under 15 A's competition of the 2 boys who stepped up to play Harold Matthews Cup with the Sharks this year.

Well done boyz, we all hope you loved the experience.

It looked like Rea & Stacey had to work very hard with their Cronulla Caringbah team mates to over come a determined Gymea side who held a 4 - 0 half time lead

But the Sharks came out a different side lead by powerful runs by Joseph Drinkwater who ran 60 meters through the Gymea traffic to add 4 points after the break.

The Gorilla's made a few mistakes which resulted in turnover and Cronulla Caringbah tried to run rampant.

Gymea played well for most of the game and should all have their heads help high tonight coz the boys didnt get flogged.

Engadine still retain top position thanks to a visit to Blaxland Oval to play the Aquinas Colts, the Colts are always tough and expecially at home.

But the Dragons out ran the Colts with superior fittness and ran away with the game and took home the 2 points.

Menai were at home to the might of De La Salle and De La played awesome footy in the first half running in a 0 - 28 point lead... VISIT OURFOOTY U15A LOCKER ROOM

SG BALL KNOCK OFF ANOTHER TOP TEAM

Cronulla's SG Ball under 18's team today outplayed the mighty Penrith Panthers at Shark Park this morning after last weeks great victory over the Minor Premeirs the Bulldogs.

The Sharkies scored first when young excitment machine Danny Perkins ran around a half a dozen Penrith defenders to sprint over the line at a million miles an hour for the 1st of his pair for the day.

Penrith are a top side and lead the game at half time 6 - 16 and were looking good although the Sharks had their share of the footy.

The Cronulla boys held on to the rampaging Panthers by controling the speed of the game and came from 8 - 22 to claw their way back in the second half.

With just 90 seconds left on the clock and the Sharks peppering the Penrith line with a repeat set, the Sharks looked for a way to score, all the forwards had a go only to get smashed close to the line.

Then the Sharks hooker Dane Snelson decided to give the ball to his backs who let the ball rip and then Perkins somehow got the footy and and drilled his way next to the far corner post.

PANTHERS UNDEFEATED MINOR PREMIERS

Story & Photo's By : ourfooty media

The Penrith Panthers are the 2008 Harold Matthews Cup minor premiers after defeating the Cronulla Sharks today at Toyota Park.

Penrith are an awesome football team, they are big, fast, strong & no one has been able to beat them all year.

The Sharks competed very well for the first half, and scored 1st when talented center James Hasson crashed over with in 3 or 4 minutes, then coverted his own try, Sharks were in front for a minute.

The Panthers got into gear then all of a sudden it was half time, at the break the score was 6 - 26 and although the Panthers were in front, the Sharks were not realy out of the game.

The Panthers came out in the second half and gave everyone at Shark Park a football lesson, it was great to watch the Panthers support each other every time the ball moved.

With Penrith forwards unloading to running players, the Sharks were working over time just to stay on side.

It was wave after wave of attacking Penrith Boys as the visitors piled on 36 an answered 2 nd half points to finish the game and the 2008 Harold Matthews Cup season undefeated.

SHARKS UNDER 15's TOO GOOD FOR FWAS

It was great to see the Far Western Academy boys again this year,

It was great to see the Far Western Academy boys again this year, we saw some familar faces & a few new ones too from last years Nyngan trip.

The Academy boys only arrived in Sydney late Thursday afternoon atfer thier long 10 hours on the bus.

The Academy boys turned up to Endeavour field and were welcomed by our fantastic Sydney weather. These kids havent seen rain like they saw yesterday for yonks.

the footy, the Cronulla boys played really well, dominating in most positions and there fore the scoreboard as well, the scoreline of 44 - 0 was not quite how the game went with the Academy boys playing some good stanza's of footy, it was the Cronulla sides fierce defence that denied their line to be crossed.

The FWAS team played against the Parramatta U 15 Development team a few weeks ago and played much better in that game, o it was either the junior Sharks played really well (they did) or the Academy boys had a shocker.

Although the score line blew out towards the end of the game, the Academy boys were well disiplined, the game was played with great comradarie and played in the spirit of our 100 year old game.

Unfortunately the rain hampered any activities planned for the visiting FWAS squad, the weather did not affect the boys appatite as they howed down on the food at the BBQ, head BBQ chef and Cronulla Junior League Reps Sec Ken Fitzgerald who does cooks a mean snag was delighted with the game, "we are looking forward to our partnership with the FWAS"

Hopefully one of you champion parents can write us all a decent match report (GRANT)

ROUND 2 U 15A's

Round 2 kicked off & ended with just 2 undefeated teams in the Under 15A's competition with the Engadine Dragons and Gymea Gorilla's outright leaders the points table.

The Gorilla's held of a strong and determined Colts outfit to get home by the mearest of margins, 2 points.

Engadine are a good side and even without holiday harry were too good for the Menai Roosters, the Dragons piled on 46 points and must have shared the football around all day.

Last years Grand Final replay between De La Salle and Cronulla Caringbah was played at Capt. Cook oval with both team putting their bodies on the line for their teams.

The defending Premiers were the winners again day with some good well organised defence and plenty of go forward from the big boys, when this happens teams are busy back peddling and De La give the ball to thier backs and it's usually not good news for their opposition as De La can pile points on any side. (Oh yeah, photo's soon - U 15A's News)

Meanwhile over at Shark Park the Cronulla Juniors Reps played their first real home game of the season.

The SG Ball continued their winning form after the break caused by the bye last week by defeating the Newcastle Knights.

The Matty's Cup showed glimpes of determination but were not good enough to beat the young Knights at home going down 14 - 34
MATTYS & SG BALL KICK OFF AT SHARK PARK
Finally the Cronulla Sharks Juniors will get to play a home game at their real home - Shark Park, well Toyota Park as it is called

The Harold aAtthews Cup kicks off at 12:00 pm with the hot SG. Ball getting underway at 1:30 pm.

The Cronulla boys had a bye last week and both teams are keen to get it on today against the Newcastle Knights.

The Matthews Cup side showed what a good footy team they can be in the first couple games, but injury and the odd spear tackle has the coaching staff scratching their heads for responsible replacements.

The SG Ball are 2 points out of the 8 & are in good form and their opponents the Knights are sitting in 8 th place.

So if you are not playing footy at these times, get down to Shark Park to cheers the boys on

Gymea High School Vs St. Patricks College Sutherland @ Gymea HS 9 th April '08

The Sutherland Shire leg of the National Schoolboys Rugby League knockouts, the Arrive alive Cup kicked off at Gymea High School with Gymea taking on the powerful St. Patrick's College Sutherland.

With great excitement from the Gymea High kids screaming their heads off at lucnh time the game got underway with Gymea kicking off.

Then St. Pat's had the ball and took control of the game from there on.

St. Pats play a good style of footy using their powerful forwards to smash the opposition then they feed the ball out to the talented back line who like to run.

Dragons Toyota Cup player & former Shark Tommy Hancock opened the scoring for the Pats boyz with a good run from about 30 meters out with defenders falling off their tackles.

Matthew Sommers converted from in front and the game was on.

The first half continued this way with Hancock crashing over for his second try halfway through the first half.

During the second half it was funny hearing the schools loudspeakers trying to get all the kids back in class and away from the game.

Gymea were courageous in defeat, they did not give up at all and reduced the St. Pat's side to just 14 points in the second half, the five - eight was a dangerous little player for Gymea who had a few good runs and tackled like a demon.

The power and experience of the St. Patricks boyz was just too much for the Gymea boyz, St. Pats kept coming in waves of running players.

Man of the Match according to ourfootyteam was Tom Hancock, he is a class or 2 above everyone else on the paddock.

15'S DEVELOPMENT GAME V FAR WEST ACADEMY
The U/15's Development squad will be playing a team from the Far West Academy on Friday the 18th of April at 10.00am.

The game will be at Endeavour 2 outside Toyota Stadium.

The Academy team draw their players from as far away as Broken Hill.

It will be the first time some of these boys have been to the city or the beach so it's a real experience for them.

I'm sure the boys will appreciate a good crowd on the day. If you're not doing anything that day in the holidays come and watch an entertaining game.

When last years under 14's visited Nyngan for a few days, the local people really turned it on.

The boyz, they went wild pig chasing, visited a farm with a plane in the shed next to a huge tractor, a fantastic dinner which included yabbi races for the boyz and the travelling parents, so c'mon, tell everyone to come and watch the game. Ed

FOOTY SEASON KICKS OFF

The Cronulla Junior League kicked off yesterday with the mighty under 15A's doing battle at Gwawley Oval when the Gymea Gorilla's took on new comers to the A comp, the Menai Roosters.

The Gorilla's won this game quite comfortably winning 20 - 4, welcome to the A's Menai.

The match of the round was next when defending Premiers De La Salle took on an inspired Engadine Dragons. The dragons have been fired up for this game for months.

Engadine have recruited some good little players in the off season and a new assistant coach in Steve Holtz, Engadine have stepped up this year and there is a bit of Holtzie razz-a-matazz in some of their plays. Corey has drilled the boyz very well over the past couple years

The Dragons were into the De La defence with a some very solid hits, the Dragons punched through to allow Ryan Giles to cross for the 1st of his tries to give the Dragons a 8 - 0 lead at half time.. LEARN MORE

The Sharks SG Ball side started with a quick try in the 1 st couple minutes to the flying five eight Mitch Wynn scoring his first try for the day, then Chad Townsend converted go give the Sharks a 6 - 0 lead.

The Tigers hit back a few minutes later with one of their boys powering over the line, the conversion was an easy shot and it was 6 - all. More Soon

The Sharks Matty's Cup did a bit better than last week and are running out of troops faster than an easter egg disappearing on easter Sunday.

Once again Joel Tubbs & fullback Ben Stratton have top games, Berks popped in for a few cameo runs and the boyz were unlucky with a couple of tries that were not allowed.

ROOSTERS SNEEK HOME IN LAST 10 SECONDS
The Cronulla Sharks District Rep's played the Sydney Roosters at Blaxland Oval in round 6 this week.

In the SG BAll, the Sharks started like greased lightning with a try from the first set to see the boyz race off to a 4 - 0 lead only to have the Roosters hit back the next set of 6.

Both teams went hammer and nails trying to get on top, the Sharks spent plenty of time chasing the footy to be behind 14 - 24 at half time with the sky looking like it wa about to rain.

The Sharks played some pretty good footy to out play the Roosters in the 2 nd half and actually fought their way to be in front by 2 points with only 3.5 minutes left.

Sharks winger Adam Goode could be screaming to his defensive line "$6@3& keep in line boys"

After Sharks hooker Dane Snelson snuck in under the upright from dummy half to level the score, Chad Townsend had an easy chance to give his team the lead in the game.

The Rooster 5/8 & goal kicking whiz Brad Murray kicked a short ball from the kick off which he himself caught among 3 Sharks, this gave the Scott Murray coached Roosters the ball and they went into a passing & running frenzies that resulted in the Roosters scoring right on the bell to steal the game.

The Roosters take the 2 competition points from both the Harold Matthew's & the SG Ball Cup's back to the Chookpen.

The Harold Matthews Cup boyz got flogged by a team that are not 38 points a better team, except for today.

What can ya say about today Matty's game apart from the fact that the Roosters played a fast game, deserved most of their tries and Center Jacob Miller converting his own try at the end of the game for a personal tally of 14 points was a familiar sight.

A bit of a match report later & photo's from both games too

ENGADINE WIN 3 OZTAG STATE CUP'S

Engadine OzTag are triple NSW State OzTag Champions winning the boys Under 17, U 15 and the Under 14's today at Solander Fields, next to Shark Park

What a terrific day of organised chaos, there were games of oztag everywhere you could look, with teams from all over NSW doing battle, well Oztag battle anyway.

At almost 5:00 PM in the under 14 boys Grand Final the score was 3 tries each at full time, the game went to sudden death with 5 minutes each way.

Souths who had beaten Engadine in round one at 8:30 AM were straight on the attack after Engadine gave away the footy.

Souths were attacking down the left wing and were only 15 meters from the line with numbers, only to see a sharp intercept by Engadine who ran the ball to the other end of the paddock to give the boyz from Engadine a State Champions title and a sweet victory over Souths.

Engadine were victorious against the St. George side in the under 16's Grand Final in a tight fast game.

There were far to many games on that there were footy fields used all over the place from next to Shark Park to over at Wooloware High School, so details on all the girls games are a mystery, but there were plenty of smiles on lots of boys faces

Bill Harrigan took a day off from selling cars to arrange and be the announcer at NSW Junior State OzTag Cup.

Bill said after the game, " The Junior State Cup was a real success played in good spirit & very the few minor problems were far out weighed by the positives of the tournament.

Which are : FAIR PLAY, Camaraderie, & fantastic support from parents & the spectators".

Heaps of photos soon guys - well done to all teams & thanks Bill Harrigan & the OZTAG people.

SHARKS TOO GOOD FOR DRAGONS ?
HAROLD MATTHEWS CUP - The junior Sharks traveled to OKI Jubilee Stadium today to take on local rivals the St. George Dragons.

The Sharks took home the 2 points in this much anticipated game in round 5, it was a close thing too with the Dragons finishing with less mistakes than the boyz from the Shire.

The Sharks were lucky today to win this game, there were good sections of the game, but coach Dave Howlett and his team might need to buy some glue for the boys hands. There were plenty of mistakes from both teams and the Sharks deserved to win because the Sharks ball boy said so.

St. George Dragons 6 - 12 Cronulla Sharks

SG BALL CUP - The Sharks were not the same team that destroyed WSAS last week at Blaxland Stadium, the dragons seemed to have a bit of fire in their bellies against the Sharks and smoked the visitors with a late try off a very forward pass that led the Dragons winger Joe Rokoqo to score his second try of the game.

A bit of excitement at the end saw 4 players on put on report for something that should not have happened.

The players were getting hot under the footy jumper and were obviously in each others faces under the stinking hot Aussie sun. But unfortunately the Ref allowed things to get out of hand and it was on. A few reserves from both teams might be getting a run next week.

Cronulla SG Ball center Mikos Tempania unfortunately broke his leg in the second half and was taken to hospital in the ambo, the Ambulance was needed again for another Sharks player who broke is leg too, what bad luck, get well boyz.

St. George Dragons 18 - 12 Cronulla Sharks - PHOTO'S COMING SOON !!

In other District Rep's news, the Balmain Tigers had a mighty game when they beat the previously undefeated Roosters in a tight game that ended with the Tigers winning 24 - 22.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs wracked up 128 points against the WSAS and the Matty's Cup boyz ran all over the WSAS by scoring an impressive 52 - 6 victory which may see Souths into the top 8.

Souths SG Ball side had a blinder scoring a huge 76 points to win by 64 in their 76- 12 victory.

Parramatta continued their great Matty's Cup season when they destroyed Wests Magpies 46 - 0 and confirms the Eels are favorites to win the comp. Its now 5 from 5 of the slippery ones.

The Bulldogs had a tougher time against Illawarra but ran in some late tries to win comfortably 32 - 6.

The Newcastle Knights remain undefeated after steam rolling the North Sydney Bears 44 - 4.

Tomorrow the Manly SeaEagles complete round 5 when they take on the Canberra Raiders at Brookvale Oval, the game will kick off at 3:00 PM.
