PARRAMATTA JUNIOR LEAGUE BAN ALCOHOL FROM GAMES - 01/11/06 |
THE Board of Management of the Parramatta Junior Rugby League has decided to ban alcohol from all Junior League games from Under 6 years to "A" Grade, commencing in 2007.
In 1999 the Junior League placed a ban on the consumption of alcohol at all Under 6 to Under 17 matches.
Junior League Executive Officer Terry Rose said the decision was made after a great deal of consultation.
"The benefits of alcohol at sporting grounds are somewhat precarious and profit margins from sales have diminished considerably in recent years," Mr Rose said.
"The alcohol affected spectator is a blight on the game and they need to be removed in order for us to continue our charter of supplying a safe haven for our players and the Rugby League community," Mr Rose added.
Parramatta Eels Chief Executive Denis Fitzgerald supports the decision of the Junior League.
"This is a good move and one made in the best interests of all concerned. The vast majority of supporters and parents want to have a good time without their enjoyment of watching Rugby League being spoilt by an irresponsible few," Mr Fitzgerald said. |
