EELS VS SEA EAGLES - SG BALL REPORT

The Manly Sea Eagles travelled to Parramatta Stadium this week to wage war on their bitter rivals the Parramatta Eels. Although Manly held the lead on several occasions the Eagles went down in a cliff hanger 32-26.

Manly started the game with all the momentum crossing for 2 early tries. One to Mitchell Porter in the corner, the other to Jack Webster courtesy of a magical flick pass from Sione Ala.

Parramatta hit back with two tries of their own to level the scores at 10 a piece. With both teams out on their feet, wishing the referee would blow the half time whistle the Eels were given one last chance to take the lead before the break.

The Sea Eagles defence was rock solid holding up a Parramatta player on two sperate occasions, but it was a case of third time lucky for the Eels crossing just before the siren sound. Parramatta took a 16-10 lead at the break.

Manly came out in the second half and started exactly the same way they did in the first. With 10 quick points. David Thomas sliced open the Parra defence to score, and then Mitchell Porter scored his second of the day when he plucked the ball mid-air from a Brad Bennett kick to score just inside the touchline.

Parramatta again found a way to hit back and take the lead. But there advantage was short lived after Mitchell Porter completed his hat-trick and gave Manly the 26-22 lead with 10 minutes left on the clock.

During the dying stages of the game Parramatta were given a lot of possession, and it all became to much for the Manly side allowing two late tries to give Parramatta the two competition points.

Although the Eagles didn’t walk away with the win, it was one of their best performances all year. Sione Ala was strong from the back, while Brad Bennett was a standout, and close to man of the match.

EELS VS SEA EAGLES HAROLD MATTHEWS REPORT

On Friday night the Sea Eagles met the undefeated Parramatta Eels at Parramatta Stadium and went down 54-4.

Although the score line suggests otherwise the Sea Eagles played with a lot of enthusiasm and at times of the game showed glimmers of the team that won the week before.

Early stages of the game saw Manly take advantage of Parramatta’s right side with Baden Donegal making two early line breaks. Unfortunately these early attacking raids led to no points, and Parramatta scored two quick tries.

The Eels continued making metres and looked to cross again but William Hopoate made a try-saving tackle, Parramatta still found a way around the defence and scored in that same set. Parramatta scored twice more before the half-time siren to take a 30-0 lead going into the sheds.

Parramatta started the second half just as the first had played out.

The Eels added 14 more points in the first 10 minutes of the half. Manly then scored their only points of the game after the Sea Eagles created the overlap out wide, which saw James Coote cross in the corner. Solid defence saw Manly only allow 10 more points through in the final 15 minutes against a team, which will most certainly be there at the very end

Brookie 4 eva BROOKIE FOREVER - THE SEA EAGLES HAVE VOWED TO FIGHT ON

Board and management of the Sea Eagles have vowed to fight on and continue to lobby both Federal and State Government for the funds so desperately needed to upgrade Brookvale Oval. Any talk of relocation has now been taken off the table and the club will see out its lease which expires at the end of the 2009 season.

Based upon all the information we have been given, we expect to have an answer on the funding by no later than May 2008 thus enabling the club to negotiate a long term hiring agreement of Brookvale Oval with Warringah Council.

THE TIME IS RIGHT - WE NEED GOVERNMENT SUPPORT NOW!“The Sea Eagles will definitely play at Brookvale Oval in 2008 and 2009, and Brookvale will continue to be our home for as long as we believe both State and Federal Government are sincere in their commitment to fund an upgrade.” CEO Grant Mayer announced today.

“Our fans have shown us all, including the politicians, there has to be an NRL team on the Northern Beaches. This is a regional sporting facility and deserves a much bigger piece of the funding pie than we have been previously allocated.”

“Until funding is confirmed we need all members and fans to continue lobbing their politicians and now more than ever we call on all fans to become members, season ticket members or sponsors so that we can continue to fight for what is right.”

Sea Eagles Launch Kid's WebsiteSEA EAGLES LAUNCH KIDS WEBSITE

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles are taking the game to some of their youngest fans in a new and exciting way with the introduction of the first NRL website especially for kids.

www.seaeaglekids.com was launched this week to entertain, educate and inform the club’s youngest fans.

Realising kids are more likely to embrace new technologies at a younger age the Sea Eagles have jumped at the chance of using new media technologies via the web to reach the kids demographic of ages 4-12.

With online activities now a major part of the education of children the Sea Eagles felt it was imperative to provide enrichment activities to help develop literary, numeracy, computer skills, health and fitness. All the games and activities on Sea Eagle Kids are designed to stimulate at least one of these key developmental processes

The initiative shown by the Manly club in building the Sea Eagle Kids website has been applauded by NRL CEO David Gallop who gave the site his and the NRL’s approval.

“The positive impact Rugby League players can have on kids, lies at the heart of our community.”

“Kids look at the footy and establish their own heroes and that’s how most of our players started out themselves.”

“Through the Kids Mascot Program, through the Little League magazine, and through the work of all our players in the community the NRL works hard to ensure there are opportunities for kids to strengthen their relationship with game.”

www.seaeaglekids.com“The Sea Eagle Kids website is an important part of this process and the NRL applauds the Sea Eagles for taking this initiative.”

The website provides plenty of education and entertainment for users with much of the site centred around the Sea Eagles high-flying mascot Egor.

Users will find plenty of activities to keep them entertained within the site including flash games, colouring activities, fan photos, newsletters, polls, origami, junior member birthdays, and a junior member hall of fame.

This is combined with all the aspects you would expect to find on a Rugby League site including results, draws, stats and player profiles.

The site will be constantly updating during the season and there will be plenty of competitions offering fantastic prizes.

The website was launched today and can be viewed at the following URL www.seaeaglekids.com
Manly Sea Eagles3 LOCAL SCHOOLS IN AAC SEVENS

01/02 THREE Northern Beaches High Schools are participating in this year's the Arrive Alive 7's tournament.

Mater Maria, Narrabeen Sports and Balgowlah Boys will all make the trek to St Marys on Thursday.

The random draw was not kind to them resulting in all 3 teams in the same group! The good news is that the chances of a Northern Beaches School going through to the next round is very very good.

Our mate Ashley is going out to support the players and help them progress through the tournament.

We would like to wish the three schools the best of luck, I'm sure you will all do us proud!
