COACH : Mr. Joe O’Callaghan
MARSDEN STATE HIGH SCHOOL OFF TO SUNCORP STADIUM

Marsden State High School will play their first televised match in several years this Friday 20th of June. It has been a long wait for the program with the last channel 9 match dating back to 2006 with the graduation year of Israel Folou, Chris Sandow and Antonio Winterstein and co.

The match is the South East QLD quarter final stage of the national GIO schoolboys cup. After ranking 4th in the elite under 18 Langer cup at the conclusion of the round matches, the boys will now meet 8th place outside qualifier Morayfield State High School.

The boys are quite excited for their big match at such an amazing venue such as Suncorp Stadium and opportunity to play in front of channel 9 cameras.

Coach Mr Joe O’Callaghan is very proud of the teams efforts to this point of the year, and is quite confident going into the match as long as the team is not complacent due to playing a qualifier ranked team.

Unfortunately two key players in centre Conor Carey and front rower Tyrone Pritchard will miss the match due to knee injuries, two players that O’Callaghan believes will be huge losses due to both their great form this year, but an amazing opportunity for the boys that come into the side.

The winner of this match will go on to play the side that progresses from the Keebra Park SHS vs Coombabah SHS in semi final action.
MARSDEN SHS READY FOR FINALS ACTION

All major Broncos cups competitions involving South East QLD schools has reached the finals stages for 2012 and all Marsden SHS sides are in good positions leading into the quarter finals and round of 16 stages.

In the Year 8 Renouf Shield, the Mr Deymion Spiros coached Marsden side has finished the normal rounds in the healthy spot of 3rd.

This matches them up against Ipswich school St Peter Clavier in the round of 16 knockout match. The last time the two sides met Marsden walked away with the win 40 -12, but they will not be taking SPC lightly in a finals match.

In Year 9 Hancock Cup action, Marsden SHS has finished up an honest 4th place in the middle of the pack as they look to back up their title win from last year.

Coach Mr Mark Tookey will now prepare his side to take on Palm Beach Currumbin in their round of 16 knockout match. In their normal round match, both teams played in a tight contest with Marsden eventually winning 30 -16.

A really strong season from our Marsden SHS side in the Year 10 Walters Cup competition has seen them finish the regular rounds in 2nd spot.

The school has had a great hold on this cup, winning it over the past two years, and coach Mr Grant Stephensen will make sure his side is ready to continue this title defence when they play their quarter final against Coombabah SHS early next term.

This game should be a cracker with Marsden winning their round match in a great 24-22 win.

At the conclusion of the premier under 18 Langer Cup competition, Marsden SHS finished up at rank 4th.

This has now set them up with a South East QLD Quarter final in the National GIO Schoolboys Cup. The boys will take on the 8th rank qualifier Morayfield SHS at Suncorp Stadium on Friday 22nd June.

The boys will be pumped for a big performance in front of Channel 9 cameras. The winner of this match will meet the winner of Keebra Park and Coombabah at the semi final stage.

MARSDEN SHS KICKS OFF 2012 WHERE THEY FINISHED OFF LAST YEAR
Marsden State High School Excellence in Rugby League program has had a great start to the year after their record making 2011.

Last year witnessed the school win two South East QLD Broncos Cups in the Year 8 and 10 division aswell as their national schoolboys cup side going down by 8 to PBC SHS in the South East QLD Semi final, a great effort considering that their opposition went on to win the QLD title.

Off the field this year program coordinator Mr Grant Stephensen and his staff have proudly watched as recent graduates have moved on into NRL environments including Jarrod Teo (Titans NYC), Caleb Timu (Broncos NYC), Codey Kennedy (Roosters SG Ball), Patrick Mago and Brenko Lee ( Raiders SG Ball) and Costner Lemafa (Bulldogs SG Ball).

Watching Caleb Timu represent QLD in the inaugural Under 20 State of Origin game was also excellent news, which has also now been backed up highlights including a QLD U/16 Origin jersey for current student Tarahawaiki Kaumoana and QLD U/18 Schoolboys Rep Conor Carey (both pictured).

We also had a great effort from the QLD U/15 state trials coming back with two Queensland Maroon jerseys in Calvin Pritchard and Jaydn Sua (also player of the carnival) and two Queensland White jerseys in Aaron Uele and Moses Kele. Not to mention 5 of our current senior squad playing a part in the national champions Souths Logan U/16 side.

On the field has been a solid start to 2012 with our Year 8 and 9 sides only tasting defeat once to this point of the season and our Year 10 side currently undefeated as we chase our third consecutive Year 10 Walters Cup title.

In national schoolboys cup action (side pictured), coach Mr Joe O'Callaghan is pleased with his sides efforts so far after a tough 24 all draw against PBC, 12 -0 loss to Keebra Park and strong 50 point win over Coombabah SHS.

The boys still have a very tough road in front of them but hope to progress past the SEQ Semi Final stage this year which we have finished our season at over the past two years.

Keep watching this space with more updates as we come into the finals stages of all competitions. If anyone would like further information on our program please do not hesitate to contact program coordinator Mr Grant Stephensen on 32 99 0535 or check out our website below:
