MARSDEN SHS KICKS OFF 2012 WHERE THEY FINISHED OFF LAST YEAR
Marsden State High School Excellence in Rugby League program has had a great start to the year after their record making 2011.
Last year witnessed the school win two South East QLD Broncos Cups in the Year 8 and 10 division aswell as their national schoolboys cup side going down by 8 to PBC SHS in the South East QLD Semi final, a great effort considering that their opposition went on to win the QLD title.
Off the field this year program coordinator Mr Grant Stephensen and his staff have proudly watched as recent graduates have moved on into NRL environments including Jarrod Teo (Titans NYC), Caleb Timu (Broncos NYC), Codey Kennedy (Roosters SG Ball), Patrick Mago and Brenko Lee ( Raiders SG Ball) and Costner Lemafa (Bulldogs SG Ball).
Watching Caleb Timu represent QLD in the inaugural Under 20 State of Origin game was also excellent news, which has also now been backed up highlights including a QLD U/16 Origin jersey for current student Tarahawaiki Kaumoana and QLD U/18 Schoolboys Rep Conor Carey (both pictured).
We also had a great effort from the QLD U/15 state trials coming back with two Queensland Maroon jerseys in Calvin Pritchard and Jaydn Sua (also player of the carnival) and two Queensland White jerseys in Aaron Uele and Moses Kele. Not to mention 5 of our current senior squad playing a part in the national champions Souths Logan U/16 side.
On the field has been a solid start to 2012 with our Year 8 and 9 sides only tasting defeat once to this point of the season and our Year 10 side currently undefeated as we chase our third consecutive Year 10 Walters Cup title.
In national schoolboys cup action (side pictured), coach Mr Joe O'Callaghan is pleased with his sides efforts so far after a tough 24 all draw against PBC, 12 -0 loss to Keebra Park and strong 50 point win over Coombabah SHS.
The boys still have a very tough road in front of them but hope to progress past the SEQ Semi Final stage this year which we have finished our season at over the past two years.
Keep watching this space with more updates as we come into the finals stages of all competitions. If anyone would like further information on our program please do not hesitate to contact program coordinator Mr Grant Stephensen on 32 99 0535 or check out our website below:
