The Sharks weathered an early storm, took control in the first half and did more than enough in the second 35 minutes in coming away 28-10 victors.

The win, coupled with a draw and a first round bye have the Sharks nicely position on the ladder after the first four rounds of the competition.

The game started in ominous fashion when the Roosters exploited an overlap to score what was a somewhat soft try, but from there the Sharks knuckled down to the task and worked their way back into the contest.

First points came from a show and go try from half back Jack Williams that leveled the score, before prop Louis Strickland with clever footwork and good speed went over adjacent to the posts.

Williams converted the second of the two tries and the Sharks led 10-4.

With field possession in their favour the Sharks went further ahead following a brilliant individual effort from Cameron Scott, the fullback darting through the heart of the ruck to score from 20 metres out.

The Scott try and Williams conversion made the score16-4 at half time.

After neither side could assert any dominance in the opening period of the second half it was a Sharks error that would allow the Roosters back into the game.

After the Sharks failed to recover a chip kick just two tackles the Roosters narrowed the margin with a try from a nicely worked play from close range and with the conversion it was 16-10 to Cronulla with 25 minutes of the match remaining.

However just when it appeared the Roosters were getting on top, a line break from winger Josh Tuilagi put his team on the front foot, then some individual brilliance from Curtis Scott, who flicked the ball inside for Chris Tupou, to go over and when Williams kicked the goal from the sideline the Sharks again had a handy lead at 22-10 in front.

A penalty goal took the score out to 24-10, before a determined individual effort from Keenan Yorston, the centre pushing off a couple of would-be defenders to score in the corner.

Williams couldn’t add the extra two points as the fulltime siren sounded on a 28-10 Sharks win.

The next assignment for the SG Ball Sharks is a match against the Newcastle Knights next Saturday afternoon at Remondis Stadium.
